It incorporates LEGO minifigures as the main characters, being surrounded by LEGO environments. The movie was made with Computer-Generated Imagery and it incorporates many already existing themes into one large movie - with a full running time of 82 minutes.

Details

This movie incorporates certain characteristics of certain themes, most probably bending them all into one storyline. It should be noted that only LEGO created themes will appear, thus licensed themes, will not appear. This is due to either licensing issues, or the fact that LEGO would like to promote their own themes, rather than the already popularized and promoted themes.

It has been confirmed that the themes; Mars Mission, Space Police III, City, Power Miners, Castle, and Agents will appear, due to the trailer and the clips on its website confirming it. Pictures of the movie have been featured in the January 2010 edition of the LEGO Brickmaster Magazine, showing a picture of Clutch holding a sword, Clutch and his dream team in Mars Mission attire, a knight battling Mallock, and Skelly and Bones.

Plot

The movie begins with Clutch Powers retrieving an energy crystal from an underground cave. He finds the crystals, but spots a large energy crystal in the cave as well. Clutch pulls out the crystal, which awakens the Crystal King, and he is chased through the cave. Just as he is about to escape, the Crystal King blocks the exit with a boulder. Clutch then wrestles the King using the Mine Mech but is thrown out of the Mech, and after that, he spots a pile of LEGOs. He visualizes what he could build: either a racecar, a hoverboard, or a slingshot. He decides to make a slingshot and gets working. Meanwhile, the Crystal King realizes that Clutch isn't in the Mine Mech anymore, so he continues to chase him but gets crushed by a tower. Clutch finishes the slingshot and launches himself at the boulder. Just as he is about to escape, the crystal reveals itself to be a Rock Monster baby. He puts a stud pacifier in the baby's mouth then builds a stroller for it. Clutch returns the baby and apologizes, and is rewarded with an orange energy crystal. After this, he drives his Agents car back to the LEGO building in Lego City, where he is introduced to a team of three (Brick Masterson, Peg Mooring, and Bernie Von Beam) by his boss Kjeld Playwell that will help him in his next assignment: investigate a recent prison riot on the Space Police prison planet X4. The group travels to Mars in Mars Mission outfits. One of the prisoners, the evil wizard Mallock the Malign, attacks them and then leaves. They meet a Space Police watch commander who explains to them that Mallock plans to harness all the forces of evil together and steal the deceased King Revet's powerful golden sword, now in the hands of Prince Varen. After a tip from Kjeld Playwell, the group travels to another planet, Ashlar, that is in the setting of the Castle story line. Clutch looks for the prince while the rest try to build a battle cart. Peg finds a dragon and befriends it while Brick and Bernie work on the cart. Clutch encounters Hogar the Troll, who challenges him to three tests that will allow him to cross a bridge. He finds the prince, who refuses to help. So Clutch returns to his team, who have finished the cart and are about to attack Malign's castle when the prince comes back and elects to help them. Clutch and the prince sneak into the castle while Peg wears the prince's crown and leads the knights against an army of undead skeletons with a large battle that ensues. Clutch and the prince finish off an enchanted suit of armor, but are captured and hung in a cage by Mallock. The knights retreat, and Peg, Bernie, and Brick crash the cart, in which they start to argue. Mallock forces Hogar to give him the golden sword of King Revet. But Clutch and the prince, whose images are reflected into the night sky, send the team a message: LEGO, which is translated by them as "Build on each other." So Bernie, spurred on by Peg, rebuilds the cart into a Off-Road Jeep. Peg flies her dragon in and frees Clutch and the prince, while Brick flies in to finish off Mallock's dunce skeleton guards, Skelly and Bones. Another war ensues. Clutch and the prince face off against Mallock. The prince arrests Mallock and is crowned king, the skeleton army is destroyed, and the team returns to LEGO City, where they are assigned their next mission.

Trailer

The trailer for the movie was first revealed on the 2853367 Bionicle: The Legend Reborn DVD, but now is publicly available throughout the Internet, on video sharing websites, such as Youtube. The trailer starts with the Universal Studios logo, then shows the LEGO logo connected to the license plate of a speeding car, which is the Agents Turbocar. Then it shows a minifigure known as Clutch Powers, along with his team, going through a mission, probably to save the world.

Release

The movie was released on February 23, 2010 on DVD, Video on Demand, and Digital Download. The DVD version contains complete English, French and Spanish language versions (Audio + Subtitles) as well as bonus features like:

  • Bad Hair Day - Arthur Fol attempts to get Peg's second hair back from the planet Ashlar (where Prince Varen lives) by using his new invention, the Interstellar Portateller ray, but by bringing her hair back, he brings back trouble.
  • Mini Toys - A bonus feature showing the 6 "Space Police" movie logs and the CGI "Power Miners" mini movies.
  • TV Spots - TV Advertisements from LEGO Atlantis, Power Miners, and Space Police.
The Crystal King

Notes

  • The character name Clutch Powers refers to the agent parody character Austin Powers.
  • Near the end of the trailer above, Clutch is seen awakening an orange version of the Crystal King. However, in "LEGO City: A Clutch Powers 4-D Adventure", he fights a green version.
  • While Clutch and his team are dressed like Mars Mission astronauts on the flight to Mars, they are boarding the Galactic Enforcer.
  • The torso on Clutch Powers is the same as on the Indiana Jones (minifigure), with the LEGO logo printed on his left arm and a red watch on his right wrist.
  • The evil wizard, Mallock, is seen in the set 7093 Skeleton Tower, though his name is simply "evil wizard". A larger and more elaborate version of the Tower is featured in the movie.
  • Clutch wears a Power Miners's headgear in the beginning.
  • Skelly and Bones have classic skeleton faces as opposed to the other skeletons.
  • In the movie, Minifigures are referred to as "mini-figs."
  • In Canada, The Adventures of Clutch Powers was sold for $19.99 at Lego Shop@Home. However, it was sold at Wal-Marts in Canada for $14.83.
  • It is possible that they might make a sequel since at the end, Omega has still not been captured.
  • Agent Trace, Captain Brickbeard, Doc, Inferno Henchman, Squidman, Space Police III Officer and Troll Warrior all make cameo appearances during the closing credits as a homage to several themes.
  • The abbreviation of Artie's name as shown on his name tag, "A.FOL", is a play on AFOL, or Adult Fan Of LEGO.
  • Although the DVD states that Clutch and his team will save the world, they actually only save Ashlar.
