4842 Hogwarts Castle was released in October 2010, as a re-make of the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle sets, 4709, 4757, and 5378. The set features four buildings, which are all very different. All include technic pins so that the order of buildings can be altered, thus creating different models. Close to the pins are hinges, which allow the castle to be folded up around the extended base of the Great Hall. The four buildings each possess different rooms.
Contents
Description
The first is an open-top tower which features the Astronomy Tower, a part of the library (likely the Restricted Section) and the Room of Requirement. It is known to include two brown books, a telescope and the Vanishing Cabinet.
The next is the tallest building, which many believe is Gryffindor Tower. It contains many smaller rooms. They are the Gryffindor Common Room, the Slytherin Common Room, the Owlery and another room which many think is Filch's Office, although the features of this room are not clear. It may be an Armor Gallery or a secret passageway. This tower is known to include multiple chairs and tables from the common rooms, bird scats from the Owlery, the fireplace which Sirius speaks to Harry through and the Marauder's Map.
The Great Hall is depicted as the central building of the set and only contains the Great Hall itself. Dramatic improvements are shown from its previous design in set 4709 Hogwarts Castle, one being the fact that the ceiling is now made of pieces (the original set had cardboard for the ceiling). It contains two long tables (each containing bench seating on both sides), Gryffindor and Slytherin House banners, a large cake, turkey, staff chairs up the front and the Sorting Hat with a new printed design, waiting to sort first years into their houses.
The last building is broader and depicts the design of set 5378 Hogwarts Castle. It contains a semi-open top tower, Dumbledore's Office and a room featuring a staircase and a knight with Tom Riddle's diary hidden in it. It is unknown whether this room is a hallway or a classroom as it features a door, Quidditch Shield, chest and Knight minifigure. It could possibly be the trophy room although this too is unknown. Dumbledore's Office contains many potions, Gryffindor's Sword and many other accessories including a combination of red and translucent orange bricks which may be a reference to Fawkes the Phoenix and a Basilisk fang.
Notes
- This is one of the only two sets that contain the invisibility cloak, the other one being 4841 Hogwarts Express. A violet cloak was featured in older sets such as 4751 Harry and the Marauder's Map, 4706 Forbidden Corridor and 4709 Hogwarts Castle. This may have meant to have represented the same cloak, although this is uncertain.
- At 1290 pieces, this set sets the record for the largest Harry Potter set. It also holds the most minifigures at 11.
- This is the first set to have Argus Filch, Mrs. Norris and Professor Flitwick in it.
- Although the knight is a minifigure, it is not shown on the box art.
- The Harry Potter Teaser Site at Lego.com says Ginny Weasly is included in this set, but they probably meant to put 4841 Hogwarts Express.
- On the preliminary box art, Professor Trelawney is shown on one of the towers.
- Sirus's face in the fireplace is identical to Nizam from Prince of Persia
