Fabuland was a theme that ran from 1979 until 1989. It had many sets depicting the land of Fabuland and the many creatures inhabiting it. The characters had human-like bodies with animal heads. They were larger than regular minifigures.

Fabuland had a unique cartoonish look and used large bricks specially designed for the theme. Young children could easily piece together buildings and vehicles from bricks such as walls and ceiling pieces. The studs on the bricks were regular-sized, but the bricks themselves were closer to Duplo in size. This was similar to the later Scala and Jack Stone themes.

Fabuland was the first Lego theme to have named characters and written stories. The larger sets included a story booklet, and standalone storybooks were sold. An animated Fabuland TV series was also made.

Although Fabuland has been discontinued, bricks from the theme have appeared in later sets. In particular, the Mickey Mouse sets from 2000 were mostly Fabuland-based, and used Fabuland bodies for Mickey and Minnie.
