Loki is a minifigure based on the main antagonist in The Avengers, a part of the Marvel Super Heroes theme.
Description
Loki's leg piece is grey, with gold and dark grey printing used on each leg with black outlining. This printing pattern is used to depict the bottom of Loki's coat. The gold and dark grey coat printing continues on the edges of the torso piece, which is also grey, but with flesh-coloured hands. Also present on the torso printing is dark green, showing a part of the inside of the coat that is turned out, and extra dark green, gold and silver printing, depicting Loki's other clothing. Loki's head piece is flesh-coloured, and features two black dot-eyes with white pupils, black eyebrows and a black downturned mouth, which form a frowning expression, and darker flesh around the mouth and on the sides for detailing. Loki comes with up to four accessories, three of which are present in all of his appearances. He wears a gold helmet, which is currently unique to this minifigure and most noticeably has two horn-shaped parts curving backwards at the top of the piece. Also worn by Loki is a green cape. Loki holds a staff that is made up of two gold pieces- a long staff piece with two curved points first seen in the Pharaoh's Quest theme, and a part commonly used as a sai in the Ninjago theme, which joins to the staff between the bases of the two points. In the set 6867 Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape, Loki comes with the Cosmic Cube, which is represented by a transparent 1x1 brick.
Background
Loki was the adopted son of King Odin of Asgard. Odin raised Loki as his own, alongside his biological son Thor, however when Loki discovered his true heritage, he attempted to seize control of Asgard and kill Thor. However, Loki's plan failed, and he was forced into exile.
Some time later, Loki gained control of a Chitauri army, and began an invasion on Earth. His first step was to seize control of the Cosmic Cube, an Asgardian artefact which was recovered by SHIELD decades ago following a mission carried out by Captain America. After he gained control of the cube and took control of the minds of several SHIELD personnel including Hawkeye, he put them to work on building a machine that would harness the power of the Cube open a portal between Earth and the Chitauri invasion fleet.
However, the Avengers managed to thwart the Chitauri invasion, and Loki was defeated by The Hulk. Thor then took Loki and the Cosmic Cube back to Asgard.
Notes
- Loki is the only Marvel minifigure to date that has no back printing. He is also the minifigure to appear in the most mainsteam Marvel sets, at a total of three.
