Background
Spider-Man Trilogy
Mary Jane Watson was in high school with Peter Parker and Harry Osborn, but later graduated. Afterwards she became Harry's girlfriend and tried to get into Broadway, which she was later successful in doing. She was later attacked by a group of thugs and saved by Spider-Man, and shared an upside down kiss. She dumped Harry, was briefly engaged to John Jameson and later went out with Peter, finding out he was Spider-Man.
She was constantly kidnapped by Peter's foes, Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman, New Goblin and Venom.
Ultimate Spider-Man
Mary Jane was the childhood past friend of Peter and early in their high school years, they tried dating, found it awkward and decided to just stay friends. She is determined to become a journalist, particularly at the Daily Bugle Communications, to rehabilitate Spider-Man's reputation, which was blasted by J. Jonah Jameson on a daily basis. Her first attempt to get a job there was stopped by a battle with Beetle, Spider-Man and his team (Nova, Iron Fist, Power Man, and White Tiger).
Comics
Mary Jane dated Harry Osborn while Gwen Stacy dated Peter Parker. When Gwen died, Peter and Mary Jane eventually found out they loved each other and they eventually got married. Until the demon, Mephisto, blasted that to heck, (forgive my pun) when Kingpin had snipers fire on the Parker apartment room. Peter saved Mary Jane, but a stray bullet hit Aunt May. Peter donned a black cloth costume he had and went after the Kingpin. With Aunt May in critical condition in the hospital, Mephisto appeared to Peter and said that he would heal Aunt May in exchange for the fact that Peter and Mary Jane's love never happened. After much discussion, Peter and Mary Jane decided to save Aunt May, costing them their love for each other. (See Amazing Spider-Man Back In Black storyline). After reality changed so that everything was normal except for the fact that Peter and Mary Jane did not even know each other, let alone love each other. Even though reality is changed. The Marvel comics Database states that Mary Jane will always love Peter Parker no matter what.
