Ninjago is a Theme that was released in January 2011. Some sets contain a spinner that can be used in a battle game called "Spinjitzu".

Story

Long ago, the first master of Spinjitzu created the world of Ninjago. The master formed the world using the four mystic weapons of Ninjago: the Nunchucku of Lightning, the Shuriken of Ice, the Scythe of Quakes, and the Sword of Fire. The master then entrusted the world he had made and the four mystical weapons with his two sons, Sensei Wu and Lord Garmadon. His sons promised to protect the secrets of the weapons. However, Lord Garmadon was consumed by darkness and greed, and he wanted to take the power of the weapons for himself. After a great battle with his brother he was banished to the Underworld forever more.

But his evil was only made stronger by death. He became the ruler of the Underworld, and forged alliances with the skeletons that lived there. He plans to once again try to take the four weapons of Spinjitzu. But Sensei Wu has found four young ninjas, Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane, that are prepared to learn the ways of Spinjitzu. Only they can stop Lord Garmadon.

The Ninjago website reads "Calling all Ninja! Lord Garmadon is on a mission: collect all four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu and, ultimately, rule the world. Can you stop him?".

Spinjitzu

Description

The game Spinjitzu is also a fighting style in the world of Ninjago where the characters spin and become tornadoes to defeat their enemies, but this is about the LEGO version where the Minifigures are placed on bases and spun like tops. You can customize your weapons, spin your top to battle, and each of the weapons or minifigures has different abilities. On the other hand, there are a few differences. You use ability cards in Spinjitzu.

According to a Ninjago poster in the Jan-Feb 2011 Lego Club Magazine, the goal is to knock your opponent's character of off his spinner. It also says that the cards either power up your spinner, or sabotages your opponent's.

Notes

The ninja Minifigures are similar to the Ninja from the Collectable Minifigures theme, as well as the old Ninja theme from 1998.
The Ninjago website now has profiles on the ninjas.
On Nickelodean, a commercial stated a movie was coming soon. Also, it revealed the voices of the ninjas, and it also was revealed that "Ninjago" is pronounced "Nin-JA-go".
The Ninjago spinner minifigures and accessories are not made with the standard ABS plastic. Instead, they use a cheaper Chinese plastic, like the ones in the Minifigures theme.
On the list of notable guests to Garmadon's Dark Fortress, it lists Bob the Ummm Barbarian.
THe spinners released for Lord Garmadon, Sensei Wu, Wyplash and Kruncha will have a clear top.
