Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu is a Ninjago TV series released in 2011. The first two episodes were aired in the US on Cartoon Network, in Germany on SuperRTL and in Finland on Nelonen. It was split into two parts, Way of the Ninja and King of Shadows. When it was released on DVD it became four episodes (Way of the Ninja, The Golden Weapon, King of Shadows, and Weapons of Destiny). It featured a song called "The Weekend Whip" by The Fold.

Season 1
Sensei Wu to Kai- "Long before time had a name, Ninjago was created by the First Spinjitzu Master using the four weapons of Spinjitzu: The Scythe of Quakes, the Nunchucks of Lightning, the Shurikens of Ice, and the Sword of Fire. Weapons so powerful, no one can handle all their power at once. When he passed away, his two sons swore to protect them. But the oldest was consumed by darkness, and wanted to possess the weapons. A battle between brothers broke out, and the oldest was struck down and banished to the underworld. Peace returned, and the younger brother hid the weapons. but knowing his older brother's relentless ambition for power, he placed a guardian to protect them. And for fear of his own demise, a map for an honest man to hide."
Way of the Ninja: Part 1

Kai and Nya are working in their family blacksmith shop, Four Weapons. They are approached by Sensei Wu who shows disdain for the weapons they make, saying they are useless in the art of stealth. He also says there are only tools/weapons for a samurai, but nothing for a ninja. Kai drives him off, who in turn disappears when Kai turns his back. Moments later, a dark cloud appears over the village, with local farmers being the first to notice. On the edge of the hill, a large vehicle (the skull truck) appears along with many motorcycles, all with skeletons on board, notably General Nuckal, Kruncha, and Samukai. The farmers attack the skeletons, only to run at the last second. Then, Kai, wearing hand-crafted samurai armour, helmet, and sword, engages in battle, with Nya joining in. Kai is nearly killed by Samukai, only to be saved by Sensei Wu, who reappears just in time. He is not able to save Nya, as she is kidnapped under the orders of someone called "Lord Garmadon." Sensei tells Kai the story of Ninjago.
After telling Kai the story, he told him Kai's father had a map made by Sensei Wu to hide the Golden Weapons, also, Garmadon had struck a deal with Samukai, and that he was the younger brother. Kai at first refuses to get involved, until realizing he won't stand a chance. He trains in Wu's monastery, and after completing his training, he awaits a final test, but is told he has already learned spinjitzu. Later that night, Kai is ambushed by three ninja, and the ensuing battle causes him to be thrown out onto the training grounds. Kai activates the training course and the obstacles disarm the attackers. Moments later, Sensei Wu stops the fight, revealing that the three are his other students. He uses spinjitzu to transform their outfits into coloured ninja outfits. The four are introduced to each other: Cole, the black ninja of earth, who is solid as rock; Jay, the blue ninja of lightning; Zane, the white ninja of ice and seer with a sixth sense; and Kai, the red ninja of fire. Introductions are cut short as Wu announces the search for the golden weapons has begun.
The first destination is the Caves of Despair, where Kai races off in hopes of finding Nya. Instead, he nearly gets caught by the skeleton Krazi who is about to raise the alarm, had it not been for the other three messing up the skeleton and shoving its Bone weapon into its mouth. As the four capture the weapon, they are attacked by Samukai and a whole legion. Jay notices the enemies to be just like the training course, and after going through the motions Wu taught him, he summoned a tornado of energy corresponding with his element. In other words: he performed spinjitzu, followed by the others. Samukai and his legion retreat, as they saw the Earth Dragon guardian of the Scythe appear behind the ninja. In desperation, Kai uses the scythe, despite Wu's instruction not to use the weapon's power, as no mortal could handle it. A rift appears in the cave ceiling, and the ninja manage to escape. Sensei gets angry at Kai for using the weapon. Meanwhile Garmadon tells Samukai everything is going according to plan.
King of Shadows: Part 2
(King of Shadows and Weapons of Destiny)
As the ninja are heading to the shurikens of ice, Wu teaches them the most powerful move in spinjitzu: the Tornado of Creation. The boat arrives, crashing into the island, and the ninja enter the frozen plains. The three yet again escape another dragon, as Zane was frozen upon contact with the weapon, and the others used him as a snowboard, with the weapons being in their possession. At the Floating Ruins, they climb a giant chain to the nunchucks of lightning, jumping down to escape the lightning dragon. The four use special inventions made by Jay, who made backpacks that spawn wings. The ninja are at such a high altitude that they are able to fly all the way to the Forest of Tranquility, the location of the sword of fire. After everyone sleeps, Kai is awoken by none other than... Nya. She runs away, and Kai chases her through the forest, eventually entering the fire temple. Nya is then revealed to be an illusion made by Lord Garmadon in a shadow form. He exploits the fact that Kai had forgotten his sword, and that the real Nya is hanging from chains above the lava. Garmadon tells him the only way to save Nya is to pull the Sword of Fire out of its rock. Kai obtains the sword, cuts Nya free and is then confronted by solid shadows. Wu arrives and attempts to take them out, but the dragon appears. Sensei decides to make a sacrifice and jumps on a rock that is going down a lava fall so he brings the sword to the Underworld. Kai tries to ask Sensei if there's another way and he also blames himself for going after "Nya" alone, but its too late. Garmadon goes to the forest where the skeletons tied Cole, Jay and Zane to a tree and tells Samukai and the legion to go to the Underworld to unite the weapons before it's to late. Jay grabs Nuckal's sword and cuts the rope when there not looking. The three ninja try to chase the skeletons in their vehicles, but the skeletons go faster so they can get to the Underworld. The ninja are to late to catch the skeletons because they escaped to the Underworld. The ninja then go to the Fire temple where Zane senses the Sword of Fire was there but there to late. Then Kai and Nya appear with the fire dragon. After they get the other dragons of their elements, they go to the underworld where they then battle the skeleton army and giant spiders using the Tornado of Creation. Meanwhile, in Lord Garmadon's throne room, Sensei Wu battles some skeletons with the Sword of Fire, which are quickly destroyed, and then fights Samukai, who has the other three Golden Weapons. Samukai defeats Wu, but does not kill him. Samukai then grabs the Sword of Fire, so he is now holding all of the Golden Weapons. He plans to destroy Garmadon with the weapons but soon disintegrates from all of the power streaming into him from the Golden Weapons and in his place is a time portal which Garmadon goes through to make himself more powerful, powerful enough to handle all of the weapon's power. When he is gone, Sensei Wu says that he will return. The four ninjas go back to Kai's shop, Four Weapons, where Nya is waiting for them, and they become the heroes of the day.
Season 2
In late 2011, LEGO announced a sequel set to air in 2012 on Cartoon Network. The second season will be called Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu: Rise of the Snakes The new episodes would air after a total of six mini-movies on Ninjago.Lego.Com leading up to the 13-part film, each either showing the four Ninja going on misadventures, or some even revealing more about Sensei Wu and Lord Garmadon's past, specifically the final mini-movie Battle Between Brothers. The new movie would revolve around the next wave of 2012 sets, where Kai, Cole, Jay and Zane would fight alongside Garmadons son Lloyd and learn new upgrades to Spinjitzu in order to fight Lord Garmadon and an army of "snake people" called the Serpentine for the Five Jeweled Snake-Staffs. A total of thirteen episodes will air in January, and the final 2-part episode will most likely air near the end of February. A list of the episodes to air can be viewed at the link below.
