Background
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were sent by the Jedi Council to the planet Naboo. The greedy Trade Federation was blockading the peaceful world in protest to taxes, and the Jedi duo were to negotiate an end to the blockade. But Darth Sidious, an evil Sith Lord who was orchestrating the blockade, ordered the Trade Federation's leader, Viceroy Nute Gunray to deploy his droid army and conquer Naboo. He also told Gunray to kill the Jedi. After fighting their way past droidekas and battle droids, Jinn and Kenobi stowed away on a landing ship and escaped to Naboo. On the surface, they met the hapless Gungan Jar-Jar Binks, who led them to the hidden city of Otoh Gunga. After being granted a submarine to go to the Naboo capital city of Theed, they found a city occupied by the Trade Federation army. After rescuing Queen Amidala, they were able to break through the Trade Federation blockade. However, in their escape, the Trade Federation battleships damaged the Queen's transport, and they were unable to make it all the way to Coruscant, the Republic capital city-word. The group decided to go to Tatooine, a desert planet, for repairs. On Tatooine, they met Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy with remarkable Force-sensitivity. Skywalker found Padme Amidala, the Queen in disguise, attractive and they soon became friends. Skywalker and his mother agreed to help the Jedi, and the boy entered a race to win money for their repairs. After winning the race, Skywalker was bought and freed by Jinn and taken with them to become a Jedi. While Jinn and Skywalker were making their way back to the Queen's transport, they were attacked by Sidious' dark apprentice, Darth Maul. Maul and Jinn dueled in the sands, and the Jedi was barely able to escape. The Queen and Jedi made it to Coruscant, where they met up with Naboo's Senator Palpatine and made a vote to elect a new, productive leader of the Republic. Meanwhile, Skywalker was submitted for testing by the Jedi Council, and was not allowed to be trained, much to the dismay of Jinn. The Queen decided to go back to Naboo and fight the droid army. With the help of the Gungans, the droids were defeated and Skywalker destroyed the ship controlling all the droids, shutting down the army. During the battle, Jinn and Kenobi fought Maul, and Jinn was killed by the Sith apprentice. Kenobi was able to avenge Jinn's death, brutally maiming the Sith and throwing him into a pit. However the Sith would survive and return to kill Kenobi during the Clone Wars. Yoda, head of the Jedi Council, decided to allow Kenobi to train Skywalker. The Battle of Naboo was over.
Overview and history
At its start in 1999, Star Wars was one of the first officially licensed LEGO themes released, alongside with Winnie the Pooh. The theme was originally planned to end in 2007, but was renewed and slated for discontinuation in 2011. Despite this, LEGO renewed the license yet again until 2016. After that had been announced, Lego established another contract guaranteeing the continuing of the theme at least until 2022. So far, from 1999-2011, there have been 236 LEGO Star Wars sets, including regular sets, Star Wars Mini sets, Midi-scale sets, TECHNIC, Mindstorms and Ultimate Collector Series sets.In 2005 they changed the faces from Yellow to a flesh coloured face which also continued when Harry Potter used the flesh colour for the brand.
