NovaFlare, Requested 23:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[edit source]

Request comments: I already have this right, but it's just more of a temporary/fill-in role since it was never voted on. Since I made all the templates, I don't think I'll have a problem with using them :P I know my writing isn't the greatest, but I think I usually report things pretty quickly and from a NPOV, and I'm confident my spelling mistakes on news articles are very rare. ToaMeiko, Requested 23:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[edit source]

Request comments: Meiko already has this right, so I'm assuming he wanted it and filling this out (hope that's ok with everyone involved). NovaHawk 23:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

  1. As nominator. Meiko obviously knows what he's doing writing news articles, as can be seen on Facebook and the article he's written here already. If Brickset can trust him as a reporter, I think we can :P If he returns, that's great, the right will be sitting there for him, if not, well, it's not like we don't have inactive users on a list of people with certain user rights anywhere else. Besides, he already has the rights, I don't want to take them off him. NovaHawk 23:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

LK901, Requested 18:18, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[edit source]

Request comments: I'm an active contributor (I do go through phases of inactivity, but oh well), and I think I could help Brickipedia as a News Reporter. I'm not the most current person when it comes to LEGO news, but I usually get wind of it within 12 hours (I actually sleep, unlike some people:P).

Sibo2808, Requested 21:20, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[edit source]

Request comments: As I have recently discovered many news in the morning not being reported until later (for me) I thought that I would make news come out faster (The team we have now is great too!). I have also had a little past with newspapers on this wiki: Weekly Media Rundown & Sibo's News (from 2013). I also have a subject at school called Media and Communication where we learn about journalistics and many media related things, which I think would help a lot. I hope that if I get the rights I will bring the news with pleasure! I was planning to do this earlier, but didn't get to do it. Thank you. Sibo2808 (talk) 21:20, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

      • Make a user subpage like Special:MyPage/News report example and copy the format of any other news articles here (ATTN NovaHawk: having him do this won't interfere with the SMW/RSS stuff for news will it as long as it's in a different namespace or am I wrong?) --ToaMeiko (talk) 21:57, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Brikkyy13, Requested 00:11, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[edit source]

Request comments: (per request of CJC95 and Berrybrick) I feel that I could be of value to the news reporter team. I don't really have any experience reporting news, really all I have is what is on the Brickipedia News:Reports page, but I am usually the first person in my social group to spread news and inform people about it. Though it's not really the same, I have submitted over 23 reviews on s@h and am a top 100 contributor, with quite a few of my reviews getting a lot of thumbs ups, so I guess this shows how well I can use words to explain things. Here is an example of how one of my reports would go (more reports available upon request).

  • Neutral. Seems to be able to write good news articles, just some very minor concerns over us possibly getting what could be considered some less noteworthy news, which would ideally be just included as a part of a weekly roundup (if we ever got back into those) NovaHawk 05:19, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
    • If I am accepted I will try to stay away from stuff like that, but I will probably do the weekly roundups for you, seeing as some of it is (kind of) newsworthy. BrikkyyTalk Brikkyy13 (talk) 06:35, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
      • Also, do neutral votes count as a yes after one week? If so, I believe I have made it onto the team :D BrikkyyTalk

Request comments: I'd really enjoy being a News Reporter. I see news everywhere and all I do is report it everywhere (On Skype, Flickr, etc.) I'm hoping I'd finally be a valuable asset to the site with this. That's all I really want to say for now. 4. Sorry. I don't mind a certain degree of infrequency for news reporters, but contributing on one day every two months is a bit too infrequent to me. Providing info on chat but not bothering to make a new stub article or making a tiny note about any new info on an article doesn't exactly convince me either. NovaHawk 03:02, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

  • To the first two opposes, why does that matter? For something like adminship, I'd understand, but this doesn't require being all too in-touch with the community. It just requires writing news when you hear of it and it hasn't been reported already. BrickfilmNut (talk) 19:38, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Just what I thought, but didn't get to write. :-P ~~ [] Sibo the First (talk) 19:42, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • I wouldn't count it. Chat isn't content BrikkyyTalk 22:33, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Why does someone have to actively edit in order to report news? - Bug (talk) 22:38, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • "Because what would be the point giving someone the rights if they won't use theme?" Why do we treat rights like something we have a limited number of, like something we need to ration? There is no difference between him not using rights he has versus not using rights he doesn't have. :P Per Bug too. BrickfilmNut (talk) 01:47, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
  • I feel like Nexus has the capability to be a news reporter but I don't want to give him this right immediately. It seems to be a trend where he'll start contributing a bit and then ask for user rights prematurely just because he's started contributing. Whether it be chat moderator, news reporter, or anything else, it's a trend I've noticed. As he says he thinks news reporter would let him be a valuable asset to the site, I don't think that's the right approach. We don't just hand out a user right so that someone can become a valuable asset. Users need to show they're a valuable asset before they earn user rights no matter what right it is. It's completely possible to become a valuable asset without any particular user right. If he does think news would be his best area of contribution, then I'd like to see him regularly adding things to Brickipedia News:Reports. Consistent contribution on that page alone would be more likely to sway me towards support but as of right now it's an oppose. --ToaMeiko (talk) 22:39, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • That's been over the course of one day... That isn't consistent contribution over time. --ToaMeiko (talk) 23:04, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Why are the opposes to why I'm only active on chat everyday? I have a life. I can't always edit pages because it takes too much time and often I'm multitasking. If you've seen my Flickr, Eurobricks, Twitter, Facebook, etc. I'm active there trying to find news. And I'm pretty good at finding it. And I can write a decent report. Like, who found The Trickster minifigure and Commander Yularen figure? Me. I just think I'd be a bit valuable to the news as I'm usually one of the first to find it. And I think Brickimedia needs some more up to date news. And this is something I'm good at. Not everyone can make C2-FA edits on anything they touch, I try to contribute. I just think this is the best way. And people said "You can't ask for rights and promise to edit after you get them." I don't see this as adminship. It's a really useful group that'd I'd feel I'd do good in joining it because I'm willing to contribute. Which is something rare. -User:Nexus
    • The problem is we can't just take your word for it that you'll become active. Yeah, we can give you the rights, but I don't want to give rights to someone who I'll have to remove them from due to inactivity after a while. If you're willing to contribute to news, that's great. Show that you can actively contribute to news here by posting in Brickipedia News:Reports consistently over a couple weeks and then nobody would have a concern with your activity. --ToaMeiko (talk) 22:46, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • All news reporters have voted, vote is tied, do we open the vote to all users to try and get a difinative answer? BrikkyyTalk 03:19, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
    • There is a definitive answer- "For a request to pass, there must be at least a +3 vote count and a 60 percent positive vote percentage." Currently it's at a ±0 vote count and 50% vote percentage. I'd like to leave it open for a day, see if anyone wants to change their minds then close, but it's up to you guys how you want to proceed (we should have something in place for if everyone's voted, but since that never happened with the QC, I guess this was unprecented NovaHawk 08:01, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
      • I personally want to open it up to all users, and maybe do a poll to keep it anonymous, but that's just me. BrikkyyTalk 10:02, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
  • I feel like oppose just because he doesn't edit seem wrong. To be a news reporter you have to be around everywhere or anywhere to find the news. If you stay here and edit, it wouldn't be productive as a NR, 'cause who would be able to produce the news then? I just don't see your point. ~~ [] Sibo the First (talk) 08:12, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
    • We're (or at least I'm) not saying he should be editing constantly (like Nova) but at a more regular pace, like an average of 15/20 pages over a few days. BrikkyyTalk 10:02, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
      • Not even editing just being remotely active(forum, commenting on blogs ect.), chat dosnt count as everyone seems to be on chat all the time :P Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg
        • Per Soup, and also, would you give NR to a new member? --LK901 10:51, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
          • @LK: He isn't new, so that question has no point. We can trust him. Not so sure about others anymore ... Also you guys should use {{NR}} in front of your sigs (At least in the oppose section). :-P ~~ [] Sibo the First (talk) 14:25, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
          • Would you give NR to a kitten? Or someone who could only speak Spanish? Or to a zombie? CJC95 (talk) 16:52, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
  • If you are going to oppose based on activity, there might be a better word to use than "visit." Personally, I think this would be a good way to contribute, and a level of activity cannot really be inferred from other areas because they are all different, and even if he doesn't I don't see the issue. Rights aren't hard to remove, and it's not like everyone who voted is active in this namespace.... Berrybrick (talk) 16:51, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
    • I have made a total of over 1400 mainspace edits over the last ten months. I suppose that counts as 'inactive', by your standards? --16:54, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
      • Since none of those were in the news namespace, yes, but only for that namespace. Berrybrick (talk) 16:59, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
        • (well, 7 were over 5 stories, but technically Nexus has already had 5 published stories :P ) CJC95 (talk) 17:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
          • Oh, I misread "last ten months" as "last month." Sorry about that, but per CJC still. :P Berrybrick (talk) 17:11, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
