Double VIP points are basically the only times I go to LEGO stores except for AFOL shopping days and fan convention weekends.

I'm not entirely sure what VIP points do, but I imagine they make more money off VIP points then just straight up sales (especially from say February to September), without affecting sale margins too much.

They basically give you $5* for every $100 you spend, or $10 for every $100 when there are double points. It's an incentive to buy more.

*Or whatever currency

Double (or Triple) VIP point dates are usually when I choose to buy large sets. Also, Double/Triple VIP point dates give you $10 (or $15) for every $100 you spend from MSRP. So if there was a sale, you'd be getting the sale price but the MSRP amount of VIP points. It's a good deal.
