Brickipedia News:Phil Lord teases 'LEGO Batman' movie plot

In an interview with MTV News, Phil Lord, who co-directed last year's The LEGO Movie with Chris Miller, has commented on what 2017's spinoff, focusing on the version of the Dark Knight introduced in The LEGO Movie will be about. "Untitled Self Portrait" from the movie sums up this incarnation of the disturbed superhero artfully in only a bit over a minute. About his movie, Lord implies plans to build on this, saying "...I think the movie is really exciting because it's about 'Can Batman be happy?'"

MTV also dug up a statement from Miller in an interview with Empire where he comments that "[E]very era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged,"

Are you excited for The LEGO Batman Movie, or would you rather another character get a spinoff, if one at all? Do you think this is a good direction?

The LEGO Batman Movie will be directed by Chris McKay and written by Seth Grahame-Smith for a planned 2017 release.

I think Batman is a good choice. He has a lot of the good satire, which I think a lot of the TLM fans aren't appreciating as much as the "random" humor. And yeah, I'm excited for this. LEGO Batman will be hilarious!

I think Batman was one of the best received parts of the film. At least among critics. \_O_/

I wasn't on board with the movie until I heard this bit. I think it's a good direction, and I hope that TLM2, Ninjago, and any other movies they plan on making strive to have the kind of heart that this seems to be going for (and TLM had).

I agree as well. It seemed to be a more of a meh thing to me before. But using the song to describe it is perfect! I just love how funny the song is. Especially the: "Have dead parents, really rich, kinda makes it better" part.
