Animal Man is a DC comics character.
Background
Buddy Baker is an average guy who is part of a punk rock garage band. He is on a hunting trip with his friend, Roger Denning, on the countryside when he is exposed to radiation from a downed alien spacecraft. Nearby, a circus train derails and Buddy suddenly finds himself able to harness, control, and use the powers of the animals around him. Using his newfound abilities, he helps to turn the animals against each other and recapture them. He agrees to help the local animal trackers to track down and collect the remaining escaped animals. Nearby, again, the alien life form from the space craft threatens a town. Buddy resolves to stop the monster, seeing as he got his powers from it. While attacking it, he finds that the monsters abilities are just as powerful, if not more powerful, then his own. To make matters worse, his powers suddenly begin to fade during the fight. With his powers gone, he sees that his hand is forced and retreats. Buddy tries a new tactic, since he can absorb the abilities of any animal, and so can the monster. He grabs a mouse, and brings it to the monster, forcing the monster to take on the capabilities and likeness of the creature. He then backs it up to a cliff and off of it so that the creature plunges to its demise. People declare Buddy a hero because of his bold acts against the monster. At home, Buddy finds it difficult to muster up the courage to ask his girlfriend Ellen, to marry him. He finds the courage, and asks her to marry him. She accepts, and he faints right in front of her. After that, Buddy baker became the Man With Animal Powers, the Animal Man.
