Blue Beetle is a DC Universe legacy mantle dating back to 1939. The original Blue Beetle was Dan Garret, who was succeeded at death by Ted Kord, who was succeeded by Jaime Reyes. Dan and Jaime are granted powers by a defective piece of technology left behind by alien invaders while Ted was unable to activate the Scarab; instead using his own technology.
