Just noticed earlier looking through Special:ListGroupRights, I saw that Bureaucrats could be able to add users to the group of System Administrators. I thought that was really off, and it must have been a mistake. It seems a little edgy to me. Global bureaucrats should, but not local bureaucrats. Here's what I thought instead might be more fair.

  • Bureaucrats should be able to add these groups..
    • Chat Moderator
    • Bots
    • Patroller
    • Betatest
  • Admins
    • Chat Moderator

Like this, I think it would be more fair (and then there won't be any promotions that shouldn't be happening). What do you think? Codyn329 (talk) 01:36, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

  • Yeah, it seems somewhat strange for bureaucrats to be able to promote sysadmins. Personally, I think admins should be able to add patroller as well as chat mod. Obi the LEGO Fan (talk) 01:49, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Traditionally, on sites like Wikipedia, bureaucrats can do pretty much everything, and admins can't do any of it. I'd be fine with doing it how it is on Wikia, though. Sysops can do Mod and Patroller, and 'crats can do bots and admin. In the meantime, I'll see if I can disable 'crats from promoting sysadmins. I'm sorry I forgot to do this earlier, Cody. :P Drew1200 (talk)
  • I updated it, now bureaucrats can only add the rights listed there. Sysops are able to add bots, and I didn't change that. Although I can remove it if you guys want. Drew1200 (talk)
  • I don't really care much about the other rights, but in my opinion only sysadmins should be able to add sysadmins. Sysadmin is more than just a wiki right, there are a bunch of accounts etc, that all have to be sorted, and it's not really a voted/bureaucratic process. If your technically competent, have the time to commit and you've shown that your willing to help, you've probably already been added to the team. Besides, we can add ourselves server-side anyway if needs be... (infact we can do pretty much anything, but we don't 99.99% of the time) --Lcawte (talk) 16:54, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
  • I agree. Although Board members should be able to add the front-end rights, just because they should be able to add all rights. Drew1200 (talk)
  • Per Drew entirely. @Lcawte: I don't know any of the FTP or shell credentials :/ That's why I can't pull my own commits etc. SirComputer (talk) 19:01, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Pretty much per all above. And I'm guessing global sysop/checkuser will be done by the board once the board gets set up? NovaHawk 11:02, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
  • I'm not quite sure what we'll being doing with Janitors, but I'd imagine that the board would handle most of it. Drew1200 (talk)
  • Board is fair enough... I didn't see board mentioned here, is there a forum for the board, there's a few points that I might bring up if there is. --Lcawte (talk) 20:31, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
