I was wondering would it be possible/a good idea to need to have done a certain ammount of edits to get on chat? I believe sonic WIKIA has this but I'm not sure. This idea would keep trolls of chat and in courage editing Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg

I don't care for this idea. We are a wiki, but we are also a community, and I think that it promotes a hierarchy of talents with editing at the top while discouraging others, because that isn't a skill that everyone really has. It does encourage editing, but it is also a turnoff for new users and edits made by the less skilled "editors" to retain their chatting ability are more likely to make bad or unneeded edits. It would be in good faith, of course, but still. There are other ways for people to contribute to the site. Berrybrick (talk) 19:11, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

  • (Made a long speech about not doing this but CJC edit conflicted me so yeah, no please). -NBP3.0 (talk) 19:24, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
  • It could be like 5 edits :P To give new users a taste of editing and keep away trolls. Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg
  • It isn't hard for trolls to make five edits though, and I still contest it. \_O_/ Berrybrick (talk) 19:32, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
  • I don't think trolls would bother :P Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg
  • No. Chat is a useful place for new users to go to to get their "newbie" questions answered, some of which could be "How do I edit a page?". Let's not do anything that would leave new users helpless. --ToaMeiko (talk) 21:16, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
  • If only I had a dime for every time I said "Per Meiko". BrickfilmNut (talk) 01:12, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
  • ^ If a new user clicks chat, they'll get "hi, welcome". If we add this rule, they'll get "go away and edit, then maybe you'll have the right to talk to us". NovaHawk 02:22, 1 November 2014 (UTC)`
  • :P I ment it to be like "You need 4 edits left to chat! You can edit a page by clicking the edit button in the top right corner. We do this because: reasons..." But I understand the comments. Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg
    • Something that's never been a concern of mine, but I have seen you concerned about it, is new users "spamming" edits for some reason or another. The only thing I can see from this would be that concern exactly. --ToaMeiko (talk) 15:00, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
      • I don't think anyone's that desperate to speak to us. Also it could be a nice reward after 5 edits, "great editing" you now have the option to speak live on chat!" Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg
        • If they ain't desperate to talk to us, they probably don't consider that a reward. CJC95 (talk) 20:38, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
          • Its better then nothing :P Plus younger users will feel great about themselves thinking they won somthing? Template:Soupperson1/Sig
      • "We do this because: reasons..." - what are the reasons exactly? The biggest problem we have with chat is the lack of activity- for most of the time, either noone's there or noone's talking. This would just make the problem even greater. On the rare occasion we get trolls, a chatmod instantly bans them from chat, and everyone else feels good because they see a little * in their chat tab, because something actually happened on chat for once. In my opinion, this will do vastly much more harm than good (actually, I can't see any good coming out of this). (Oh, and it's possible that we may not even be able to do this anyway, the chat we use is different and may not have the ability to have an edit restriction) NovaHawk 22:59, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
  • If we do put a restriction on chat, can we change it to be called "Platinum Users Club"? That would make it feel cool. :D -NBP3.0 (talk) 02:20, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
    • No, because we shouldn't be making any users feel less important than others, especially when the ability to chat is no basis for importance towards to community. --ToaMeiko (talk) 03:15, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
      • Don't worry I was being sarcastic. -NBP3.0 (talk) 11:17, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
