Nuju is a BIONICLE character introduced in 2001 as the Turaga of Ko-Koro. Following a plot twist at the end of the 2003-arc, it was revealed that before Nuju transformed into a Turaga, he was a Toa of Ice in the city of Metru Nui and part of a team comprised of five other heroes who would become the Turaga of Mata Nui.
After the exodus to Mata Nui, Nuju begins to speak exclusively in the language of birds, which was taught to him by Kualus, while Matoro serves as his interpreter. Nuju forgoes this vow twice. First when Kopaka arrives on the island, Nuju speaks the Matoran language to explain Kopaka's destiny to him. Later, after the Toa Mahri succeed in reviving the Great Spirit, Nuju runs through the streets of Metru Nui excitedly proclaiming that Mata Nui lives until he is informed that it was at the cost of Matoro's life. Nuju mourns his interpreter, but has since trained another Matoran to take his place as translator.
