Today I'm reviewing the much anticipated upcoming set: 41073 Naida's Epic Adventure Ship. The Elves theme seems to be available throughout LEGO stores in the UK, which is where I purchased mine. I've loved this set since we received the first image of it, will this be true love? On to the review:

Box, Contents and Instructions[edit | edit source]

Box[edit | edit source]

41073-Soup.jpg41073-2Soup.jpg

The box is the usual 30$ box size, but like the other "girl" set it has the curved sides. The box is an earth blue shade like the other Elves sets, which is weird as that colour isn't that prominent in the theme. The right side of the box shows off the elves using their magic while Emily reads the map. The box portrays Aira Whisperwind and Naida Riverheart trying to receive the water key. The back of the box looks beautiful! It's a giant map displaying pictures of the set, including one where Aira is dancing because Naida has found the key :P. In the bottom left corner there's a picture if all the main characters with their names. In the bottom right corner there's an advert for the upcoming app.

Contents[edit | edit source]

Inside the set there's 3 numbered bags of bricks, one large instruction manual, a dreaded sticker sheet, he ship's sail sealed in a plastic bag with paper for support, and one instruction manual that's 75 pages long.

Instructions[edit | edit source]

41073-4Soup.jpg41073-3Soup.jpg41073-6Soup.jpg41073-7Soup.jpg

The instructions are long but easy to follow. The box claims you have to be 7 to build this set, but there's nothing hard about the instructions. 6 and 5 year olds can build it easily with a bit of help. You can see here the contents of the set from the instructions, and you can see all the rare pieces included. There's also a picture of the main characters doing there thing and a set, mini-doll figure&animal checklist. The most beautiful thing is the map on the last page which is an amazing art work of elvendale that shows off all the sets, including the two summer ones.

The Build[edit | edit source]

Mini-doll figures[edit | edit source]

Two mini-dolls are included, Naida and Aira. Unfortunately they are the same as they appear in other sets. I would've liked variation or a new character rather than these two. Anyway...

Naida Riverheart has a great wavy aqua hair piece that has two light nougat elf ears. What's really surprising is her hair turns blue towards the end! Sadly the ears give it limited use. :( I don't particularly like the Elves face prints the eyes are too small and the crown moves the eyes too low. Anyway she has medium azur crown and eyes, also on her chin she has a white tattoo. Her torso is a mix match of colours on a halter top, which looks fine I guess. She has a watery marking on her left arm. She wears a medium azur towel or sarong with navy flip flops-this piece is very useful for beachy mini-dolls. Naida's accessories are a printed map and magic.

Similar to Naida, Aira Windwhistler's hair turns colour from lavender to white! Her face also looks weird, she has a violet crown, violet eyes and a white marking on her face. Her torso is lovely and very detailed, I love all the multi colored feathers! Her skirt is new and white, with a medium lavender lace. Similar to Naida she also wears sandals but in medium lavender. This leg piece is also great for mini doll customs. Aira's accessories are her magic and a glass of pink lemonade? Unfortunately there's no glass for Naida so the girls can't have a drink and gossip. :P

Unfortunately there's no animal friend included, making it the only Elves set not to have one.

The clam[edit | edit source]

41073-11Soup.jpg41073-12Soup.jpg

In order to get the key the elves have to open this clam, as it's eaten the key? The clam features the newish clam pieces and it is built onto a weird piece of under water foliage. Including a lime leaf one out of the five in the set! <33 To get the new key piece in aqua (which has an amazing flat stud printed piece) you/the elves must open the giant clam. The clam is extremely hard to stay open due to a rubber piece at the back (which can be removed), it does not want to stay up and immediately closes. I don't know the purpose of this rubber piece and I assume kids will find it quite annoying in play.

The "epic adventure" ship[edit | edit source]

41060-13Soup.jpg41060-14Soup.jpg41060-15Soup.jpg41060-16Soup.jpg41060-17Soup.jpg41060-18Soup.jpg

Here is the ship itself in all it's "epic"ness according to LEGO :P The ship has a thin earth blue (a fairly rare LEGO colour which is very useful!) hull on a brick yellow base. On the sides there's golden clam pieces with stickered medium lavender cushions on them. The back features those large feather pieces that were introduced in Chima but in gold. There's also gold swirling up blades of grass at the back, acting as a rail. The front is lovely and brick built, it's made out of very interesting/rare earth blue parts. There's also gold curved pieces on it. The bulk of the boat is medium azur. It has a very unique shape thanks to using the long curved down bricks. The medium azur is blended with the earth blue viva a sticker. The top part/look out section of the boat has the lovely new elves fence piece in gold, I can think of tons of ways to use that! The rest of it is mainly medium lilac curved and flat pieces which does look nice. The interior of the "cabin" section is really lacking. The interior consists of a bottle of perfume and hairbrush to the left. There's a hot plate and black frying pan to the right. The roof/top part of the boat can be lifted off for better play.

The flag is a large medium lilac old cape cloth piece. It has a huge wave logo in blue and several blue swirls surrounding it. Unfortunately the back of the flag looks awful, it's made out of several different colour technic pins. This design sadly distracts from the rest of the set. You do get the option to turn the flag around, but one side will allways be ugly. :(

Is the ship epic? No. While it's not an amazing design, it isn't in anyway bad but that sail/flag really let's the set down. The clam is annoying as well. There's not a whole ton of playability mabye a trapped animal or villain could've helped. The parts however are fantastic! Unlike the other Elves sets there's not a ton of new pieces but there is a ton of rare ones! If you don't buy many girly sets this may be a nice part piece set for you! There's a fair ammount of medium azur which isn't that common outside Friends. Even for people who mainly buy girly sets, this features a ton of earth blue! The price for piece ratio is good considering you get that giant flag, which was probably expensive to develop. Overall I give this 8/10, it's not the best set it could've been and there could've been more play features or playability sections. What do you think of this set? Be sure to let me know in the comments?

Anyways, thanks for reading my review! I hope you liked it <3 Soup
