I am not leaving, but funnily enough (typical, eh?), a lot of other stress has been building up in general for me, and I can't pinpoint the source, so I'm going to have to find a way to figure this out before I go crazy.
- crazier
I may be gone a few days. Or I may just edit something stupid randomly. I don't know. Point is, I want nobody to take this as a sign like "Oh, now BFN is leaving, I should just leave too." Don't do that. Please don't do that. 'Cause then I'll come back in like several days and be like "Hey, I'm back, friends!" but then you won't be there. So relax. Pretend RaceLord is me if you have to.
I was gonna write this earlier, but the thing holding me back was the kind of responsibility that I feel for this place. Yeah, I know, I've done a great job of showing that... I'm facing quite a few frustrations right now. Anyway, as much as I really don't want to leave things as they are at this point, I feel I don't have a choice. I need to think of a good action plan, and I'm probably not in the right frame of mind to do so when I feel like ripping into the keyboard with my fingernails. I did come up with a few things while my brain happened to function earlier, though. So I guess I'll just list them and just let them soak in everyone's mind for a bit. I'd organize them so that they kind of make sense, but I don't exactly have time for that right now. You instead get a look into BFN's mind at its least-restrained... almost.
- We need more readers. Editing kind of helps, but not really if readers are just kind of Googling stuff and we don't come up because Wikia gets that benefit. I mean, don't get me wrong, we really need good pages. But is that going to be enough? It'll stop people already reading here to go to Wikia if we lack content they don't. But it won't get anyone reading Wikia to know about us...
- So, what we need is to get linked to, or to show up in Google results.
- In the past, it was kind of said that the Google thing would happen eventually with new content. And yeah, that showed with the new BIONICLE stuff. (On that topic, I should really make that Bard page, if nobody else has yet. I just REALLY am sick of the Hobbit, and I haven't even watched the films...) But if people like CJC are saying that this site might be dead by the New Year (you know, the next chance to make a large number of pages that Brickia doesn't have. Excellent.), then we may not get that chance.
- What is a way people could see us come up in Google?
- I guess it was discussed before that we could have pages on the fan community. That's probably a smart idea now. We're basically a copy of Brickia in terms of idea. We just need types of pages that people are likely to google, but that Brickia doesn't have.
- If we have pages on fan communities, prominent builders/styles, we'd probably get a lot more links on other sites too...
- Hey, that's an idea. We need some cool stuff that people link to on other sites. Get something viral or something.
- News, reviews, and contests? Sure, if we want to be like every other LEGO fansite.
- There was a discussion of editorials. Maybe that'd work, except it can't just be CJC making awesome sarcastic remarks. It'd have to be something worth blogging about.
- Weekly/bi-weekly/monthly stuff would be neat, so that people keep coming back and sharing.
- We just need to think of some sort of unique talent or ideas or information we have...
- If we do something new, we should probably just make it a new namespace, not a new domain. Brickipedia has a fair number of established editors and readers already, and it's a lot nicer to only have to look at one RecentChanges than, like, a number greater than one.
- Is there anything LEGO-related you wish the internet had, but doesn't? I always kind of wanted some large category-based thing. Want all the minifigures that have blonde hair, flesh skin, carry an accessory? Boom; just choose those categories, and see what comes up. Non-licensed sets from the 1990s with exactly three minifigures? It'd be called "Bricksearcher" or something. I have no clue if we could pull it off programming-wise, and it'd definitely be a step away from wiki stuff, but at least we'd have something both useful and lacking competition, and it could totally be integrated a lot with en.
- Who's up for pizza? I'm hungry.
- Let's say, all goes wrong, and we need to go back to Brickia? Yeah, it'd suck, and we'd have a lot of work to do, but can we all promise that we wouldn't let that break us as a community? Please? Wikia sucks a little, but it isn't that bad.
- Oh, hey, we need some fun stuff here so that we can bring friends here to check us out, and keep them coming. "There's this place where you can write articles under strict guidelines with little creativity" doesn't sound very appealing if you want to advertise. I don't mean something to distract from editing. Just something small. And not contests! Again, I can't name a prominent LEGO fansite off the top of my head that doesn't have them.
- I'm still happy, I'm still fine, despite this blog's... tone. Any "situation" I have right now is actually not so much a result of the stress around here lately; it's just an awesomely unconvincing coincidence.
- Looks like I can't do the Bard page; I've been instructed to log off... 30 seconds ago. Can someone else do it quickly? Just copy-paste over stuff from Azog's SDCC page and change the year and image. I'll try and name a minor SoA character after you or something if you do.
- Crap I really have to go now. Uh... bye.
