Official description
CHIMA is frozen. The heroes are trapped in the Gorge of Eternal Depth. The Hunters are preparing their ultimate assault on the Lion City and Mt. Cavora. Another legend is revealed and an ally from the past makes a surprising return. Maybe, just maybe, there may still be a spark of hope.
Summary
"In the magical world of Chima, Li'ella has been rescued, Tormak is now a panther, and Flinx challenges Sir Fangar with his new-found spark. But the Hunters trap Flinx in the gorge and fill it with ice. Laval and the others attempt a daring rescue in the Blazing Bastion with no luck. Now they're trapped too. Just when all seems lost, guess who shows up? Lavertus! He will save them... or will he?" - Opening monologue
The Hunters speed through Chima, freezing all in their path. Their only resistance comes when they reach the tribal villages and their ice is melted by the Legend Beast's fire-roar. Deciding that it isn't worth the effort, the Hunters let the tribes keep their villages and move on. Worriz and the other wolves hurry to the Crescent to retrieve Fire Chi, but find that the Hunters have already constructed a blockade using the outpost's force field to their advantage. Inside the Crescent, one of the Tiger Guards suggests bringing the tribes Fire Chi, but Lundor is reluctant due to what happened to Tormak when he went against his orders.
At the Gorge of Eternal Depth, the Hunters finish stacking the rocks from the Fangs on top of the frozen gorge, ensuring that the phoenix never get out. At the bottom of the gorge, Lavertus explains how he used Golden Chi to survive the cave-in and how he witnessed the awakening of the Hunters. After being scolded by Fluminox for his misrepresentation of birds, the exiled lion sets to work on an escape route.
Meanwhile in Chima, the Rhinoceros Legend melts the Rhino Quarry and the rhinos are visited by Mungus who is looking to play. However due to the rhinos being under their Legend Beasts "intelligence-boost" order their foe away. Heartbroken, Mungus leaves while the rhinos resolve not to play in the snow.
Elsewhere at the Grand Archway Canyon, Sir Fangar watches as the Hunter's ice fortress rises from the canyon. Now pulled by mammoth stompers, the glacier moves towards the Lion City.
As night sets on Chima, Lavertus finishes arranging his Golden Chi into a grinning face and orders everyone to use an orb to create pillars to push the ice out of their way. They do as he says and before long, the phoenix pillars reach the top of the gorge. Flumiox reveals to Eris that the soul of a phoenix lives inside her and with that, her pillar stretches to the top as well. They succeed and push enough ice out of the way and board the Blazing Bastion. Though Mottrot and the other mammoths try to stop them, the phoenix plane makes it out of the gorge. As they celebrate, Cragger and the others joke about Lavertus's "Or will I?" catchphrase until Fluminox discovers to his horror that the Hunters have frozen everything, sans the trial villages.
As they pass the Grand Archway, they are aghast to see the Hunter fortress rebuilt and set to reach the Lion City within a fortnight. Within the fortress, Sir Fanar watches them fly by and orders Stealthor to triple their speed.
The Blazing Bastion proceeds to land atop Mount Cavora. Lavertus is surprised to see a hidden city atop the floating mountain and marvels at the view, though the others are horror-struck at all that is frozen. Flinx suggests they launch a Great Illumination, but Fluminox reminds him that the only map to the fire-wing harnesses was destroyed when Tormak betrayed them. Li'ella becomes discouraged at the though of her father alone, but is comforted by the others telling of times they've felt alone too. Just then, they are interrupted by a blinding light emanating from the Outlands as the artifact heat inside Tormak causes him to Chi-up, revealing a mysterious green mark on his head.
