Dinosaurs was a LEGO theme released in 2001. This theme included different kinds of dinosaur models, in adult for as well as in smaller younger forms. This theme did not include any Human Minifigures. In each instruction books, there was a page designed to act like a place for the dinosaur to walk.

Packaging

Canisters

The four larger sets (6719-6722) were packaged in plastic canisters. These canisters were black and they had a cuboid form. They have the appearance of a stone block with bones being visible. The lid serves also as a stand for the build dinosaurs, even though it could be difficult to place them on it without them falling over.

Boxes and Polybags

The sets 5950 to 5953 and 7000 to 7003 are the smaller sets of the theme. They include baby / young versions of dinosaurs. Those sets are in fact the same, the only difference being 5950 - 5953 packaged in a Polybag, while 7000 - 7003 come in a box.

Other LEGO themes related to dinosaurs including Dino Island, a sub-theme of Adventurers in 2000, and Dino Attack/Dino 2010 in 2005. Dinosaurs were included in DUPLO sets as well. Dino, a sub-theme of DUPLO included sets in 1997 and 2008.

Models

The four main dinosaurs, packaged in canisters, include additional parts to rebuild the current dinosaur into another:

  • Brachiosaurus can be rebuilt into a Diplodocus, Plateosaurus and a Plesiosaurus.
  • Tyrannosaurus can be rebuilt into an Ouranosaurus, Parasaurolophus and a Spinosaurus.
  • Mosasaurus can be rebuilt into a Dimetrodon, Iguanodon and a Postosuchus.
  • Styracosaurus can be rebuilt into a Camarasaurus, Centrosaurus and a Triceratops.

Sets

These twelve sets were released from this theme, all released in 2001.

The instructions shows images of the alternative models. On the back of the instructions of all Dinosaurs sets, there is a piece of a prehistorical landscape, as playmat to play with the dinosaur.

Notes

  • Although the main dinosaurs include additional parts, the four possible dinosaurs cannot be built at the same time.
  • The smaller sets remblece the bigger dinosaurs in childhood forms, with every set having an adult counterpart, exept of 5950 Baby Ankylosaurus / 7000 Young Ankylosaurus.
