The Atom is a DC Universe superhero first introduced in 1940 as Al Pratt. The character was later rebooted during the Silver Age as Ray Palmer, a physics professor who discovers a way to shrink matter. The Atom was among the first heroes to join the Justice League, but has proven bad at balancing heroism with his private life, causing him to give up on being the Atom on multiple occasions.
