Background
A number of years ago, Garmadon lived at the Monastery with his brother, Sensei Wu, as they were the sons of the first Spinjitzu Master and were left in charge of protecting the Golden Weapons. The brothers were the best of friends and were an unstoppable, dominant fighting force against evil, including fighting the four-armed beast Samukai and banishing him down to the Underworld. However, according to Wu, Garmadon was bit by the Great Devourer (Ninjago) itself at a young age, and the venom consumed his soul, turning him into the the Dark Lord over the years. After their father passed away, he attempted to steal the Golden Weapons and destroy Ninjago, but Sensei stood in his way. A battle ensued between the brothers, and Garmadon was banished to the boundless realm of the Underworld, ruled by its King, Samukai. However, he vowed to return to Ninjago and seize the weapons and gain ultimate power. To start off, Garmadon used Spinjitzu to defeat Samukai in a duel and declares himself the new King of the Underworld and commander-in-chief of the Skulkin army. Decades later, Garmadon finally set his schemes in motion and sent Samukai and his army to Ninjago to wreak havoc and search for the weapons. Sensei Wu, after acknowledging the presence of danger in Ninjago, searches for four brave ninja to defeat all evil in Ninjago and fulfill the Prophecy of Ninjago, setting the stage for the launch of the TV series, Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. In the third episode, Garmadon finally makes his appearnce, in the form of a shadowy being, who threatens to kill Nya, the sister of Kai, if he does not retrieve the final Golden Weapon. Fortunately, Wu arrives and sacrafices himself for the sake of Ninjago by apprehending his brother's plans and travelling with the Sword of Fire to the Underworld. Garmadon summons Samukai to bring the weapons back to the Underworld, where he and Wu battle for the weapons. The Ninja soon arrive and perform the Tornado of Creation, defeating the Skulkin and allowing passage to Sensei in Garmadon's throne room. When they arrive, however, Samukai turns against Garmadon, tired of being his puppet, and posseses the weapons and demands him to obey him now, wanting to reclaim his title as King. But Garmadon simply laughs and states his plan has worked, right before Samukai is destroyed by a Vortex having not been able to handle all the Weapons' power. Garmadon then travels through the portal, again vowing his return after growing powerful enough to possess the weapons.
As the events of the second season of the Ninjago series unfolded, Garmadon trained in an netherworldly dimension to become powerful enough to possess the four weapons, while the ninja fought the Serpentine in Ninjago. In the seventh episode, "Tick Tock", Wu left the ninja to search for his brother, and bought a magical tea that opened a portal to the alternative world. Upon entering it, Sensei finally finds his corrupted brother, grown monsterous with four arms, reciting the chilling sentiment; "Hello, brother. What took you so long?"
After the events of episode seven "Tick Tock" Sensei Wu was trying to inform Lord Garmadon about the events of the escaped Serpentine, but Lord Garmadon decided that it was time to fight, with his four arms he used four weapons on each to fight his brother, while fighting his brother he saw that Wu's spinjitzu was too strong for him so he summoned three mud monsters to trap and kill Wu, but while Wu was being absorbed by the monsters, Wu, in his struggle for survival told Garmadon about his son being captured by the Serpentine, when Garmadon heard this information he decided to save Wu and, Garmadon with his brother Wu traveled out of the netherworld. Now Garmadon and Sensei Wu have to go back to Ninjago through the Mountain Of Madness.
In episode eleven "All of Nothing", Lord Garmadon goes to the Underworld to take the Skeleton Army. Together, they go to the Serpentine hideout, and defeat the Serpentine. Lord Garmadon fights Pythor, and the Ninjas steal the four fang blades. Lord Garmadon leaves Destiny's Bounty after rescuing the team. However, Pythor has some other plans...
Notes
- He has the power to transform himself into a shadow to make himself harder to defeat.[1]
- In the 2012 wave of Ninjago, Garmadon has 4 arms, like Samukai.
- His samurai helmet originally belonged to Samukai.
- In LEGO Battles: Ninjago, he can only be unlocked for battle mode after completing 100% of the game.
- According to his bio on the Cartoon Network website, he has a "mysterious connection" with the Serpentine, which is the fact that when Wu tells his story in episode 7 "Tick Tock", when he jumped over the wall to reclaim Wu's katana. The Great Devourer, in its small stage, bit him as a child, and the venom from it made him evil, thus explaing his "mysterious connection" with the serpentine.
- Lord Garmadon's helmet was redesigned in 2012 so that it can fit a visor and is a better fit on his head. The same piece is also used for Samurai X.
- According the Ninjago official guide, he and Sensei Wu fought and defeated Samukai, explaining Samukai's desire for revenge against Garmadon in the "An Underworldly Takeover" episode.
- Lord Garmadon actually teams up with Sensei Wu in Ninjago the episode "Once Bitten Twice Shy".
- Why Garmadon has four arms in 2012 is because, after he traveled through the portal the golden weapons made. As he landed, he arrived in a strange area. As he stayed longer, dark magic made him stronger, thus giving him four arms.
- It would appear that, despite the fact that he is evil, he cares deeply for his son Lloyd Garmadon, seeing that he saved his worst enemy because Lloyd was in danger.
- In Episode 11 he leaves Destiny's Bounty.
- In in the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu Final Hour Part 2 episode, Lord Garmadon ends up defeating The Great Devourer by sacrificing himself.
In the episode "The Green Ninja", Sensei Wu tries to tell the ninja that Lord Garmadon is on their side; however, Kai doesn't believe it. Later, Garmadon and Kai fight over the Golden Weapons once the ninja realize it's a trap.
