LEGO Digital Designer, LDD for short, is a computer program where LEGO fans can assemble models from an unlimited supply of over 800 available pieces including minifigures, accessories, bricks, tubes, tiles, and even some TECHNIC pieces, as small or as big as the fan intends the model to be. After making the model, the fan can design the special packaging and is able to be in control of the backdrop, shadows, shining, and even the back of the box. After designing the box, the fan can choose the model's category, from minifigures to buildings to architecture. The category selection makes it easier for the other fans to view and buy your model for themselves. The fan can make as many sets as he/she wants but only a strict amount of each set can be bought, though an easy way to get around this is to copy the model. You can also only buy that year's models because some of the pieces in the model might be outdated. When pieces on LEGO Digital Designer are outdated, they are replaced with new ones. In 2010, LEGO Digital Designer 4 was released, on it's LEGO Universe theme access, all parts from the Minifigures theme were taken off.
The Ability to order a model will be closed down on January 16, 2012, though models can still be built.
