They were nine kings who were given 9 rings of power by Sauron in a false guise, and he was able to use the One Ring of Power to subdue and bend the now-Ringwraiths to his will. Only the first Nazgul of the nine, Khamul the Easterling is known to have a name, the rest forgotten in history. Their horses were killed in a flood so they rode Fell Beasts(i. e. dragon like creatures).
