―Skales

Skales is the current general of the Hypnobrai snake tribe, formerly second in command to Slithraa. He currently is second in command to Pythor, making second in command of the entire Serpentine.

Background

Skales was introduced in the second season of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Rise of the Snakes. He was the Hypnobrai tribe warrior when Lloyd Garmadon unlocked the Hypnobrai tomb. When the General of the Hypnobrai tribe, Slithraa, came under Lloyd's control, Skales saw an opportunity to seize power. Lloyd made the Hypnobrai perform childish acts such as raid an entire village for candy (where they lost the snake staff), or build a tree-house fortress. As the Hypnobrai were constructing Lloyd's tree-house fortress, the ninja attacked them to try and stall them. Skales hypnotized Cole to keep the other ninja busy while the snakes went to retrieve their Snake staff back. After the Hypnobrai got their staff back, they went back to the tomb, Skales holding the staff. When Slithraa wanted the staff back, he demanded for Skales to give it back, but Skales was defiant and the two Serpentine had to fight for the staff in an arena called the "Slither Pit." Skales won the battle, and became the new general of the Hypnobrai tribe.

Skales returned in episode 4 "Never Trust A Snake" when Lloyd Garmadon tried to have the Fangpyre attack the Hypnobrai (as a way of getting revenge on the Hypnobrai for betraying him) but it turns out that Skales and the Fangpyre General Fangtom where best friends and the Hypnobrai and the Fangpyre's where united. Skales came back in episode 5 "Can of Worms" where he highly doubts that Pythor P. Chumsworth can unite the other Snake Tribes and then later comes back in episode 6 "The Snake King" where Pythor discovers the Lost City of Ouroborus and Pythor challenges the other Generals and Skales hands Pythor the Sacred Flute to use against the other Generals forcing Skales to drop his Staff hence Pythor makes Skales second in command of the entire Serpentine. When Pythor unleash's The Great Devourer Pythor is eaten by the beast, forcing Skales and the remaining Serpentine to hide.

In the season three episode Darkness Shall Rise, Skales tries to convince the other Serpentine to make him their leader, but they refuse, believing Skales to be a poor leader due to being unable to find a home since the city of Ouroboros is destroyed by the Great Devourer's rampage and their main underground fortress is taken by the Skeletons. Eventually, Lord Garmadon arrives by using the power of the Golden Weapons to recreate the broken Destiny's Bounty as the Black Bounty for the Serpentines' new home in exchange for their alliance. Impressed, the Serpentine tag along with Garmadon, abandoning Skales and the other generals. Determined to regain the loyalty of the Serpentine, Skales gets the other generals to rob a bank in order to distract the Ninja while he attempts to kidnap Lloyd so that he can blackmail Lord Garmadon into giving his power over the Serpentine. Fortunately, Sensei Wu and Nya arrive to the rescue at the last minute, and Skales was sentenced to jail for life, much to his anger. Upon escaping from the Ninja and seeing that their plan failed and Skales imprisoned, the other three Serpentine generals finally decided to surrender their loyalty to Lord Garmadon.

In the third seasons fourth episode Ninjaball Run, the generals help Skales breakout from his jail and escape in a Serpentine Bus. When they accidently get caught up in the Ninjaball Run race, Skales decides to try and win the race. The ninja win the race and reclaim Destiny's Bounty while Garmadon is not on, leaving him to the police. However, Skales comes to his rescue and helps him escape on the bus.

LEGO.com Bio

Red2x2.png This is a description taken from LEGO.com. Please do not modify it. Warrior and second in command of the Hypnobrai tribe. Skales masters the ancient art of Fang-kwon-do. When he sees Slithraa fall under Lloyd’s control, Skales sees an opportunity to fulfill his own ambitions for control. Raiding villages for candy is beneath him, not to mention a complete waste of his Hypnobrai powers. Skales sets his own cunning plans in motion. He schemes to strike at the Ninja from within and patiently waits for events to unfold in his favor.

Notes

  • It is revealed that Skales and Fangtom are good friends in Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu Episode 4, Never Trust a Snake.

  • He is the only Serpentine General to appear in more than one set (9444 Cole's Tread Assault and 9446 Destiny's Bounty). That makes him the most common general.

  • Skales appears on the Ninjago Spinjitzu cards "Lazy Ninja", "Backup Plan", "Counterattack", "Surrender", "Upper-hand", and "Hypnotize".

  • Skales, along with Pythor, are the only Serpentine to be mentioned by name.
  • Skales's torso piece is of a lighter shade of blue than his head mold and tail piece.
  • on his Bio on LEGO.com at one point his name is misspelled Skaled
  • In season 3 it seems he will do anything to become "Snake King".
