The Tall Tale of Flintlocke (also known as The Tall Tale of Flintlock) is the first short based around the origin of the crew of the Misfortune's Keep.

Plot

With the crew of the Misfortune's Keep asleep, the skeleton tied to the helm proceeds to reveal the origins of Flintlocke;

Several years prior, Flintlocke made himself infamous as a successful pirate captain. However, in battle against another rival ship, he attempted to fire a cannon at the enemy, only for a wave to mess up his aim. As a result, the cannonball hit his ship, causing it to sink.

Floating around on a piece of debris, Flintlocke would be confronted by Nadakhan. Offered three wishes, Flintlocke wished to be someplace drier, only to be taken to the desert. Threatened by a dust storm and several Fangpyre mini snakes, Flintlocke proceeded to wish to be someplace cooler.

Consequently, he was sent to arctic. After nearly falling in a trench, avoiding several falling stalactites, and being chased by the Treehorn Queen, Flintlocke used up his final wish, wishing to be on a pirate ship.

Nadakhan would place him on the Misfortune's Keep, sealing his fate. Now a pirate once more, Flintlocke would become part of the Sky Pirates.
