10244 Fairground Mixer is a Creator Expert set released in 2014. It contains 12 minifigures.
Description[edit | edit source]
The set is carnival-themed, with rides and attractions stereotypical to many carnivals and festivals. Featured in the set are a number of models, including a large, collapsible mixer; a dunk tank; a ticket booth; two equipment trucks; a weight booth; as well as a fence to surround the mixer when it is in operation.
The Mixer[edit | edit source]
The mixer is the main attraction and core part of the set, and is consequently the largest and most elaborate. When collapsed into storage, it fits inside the area of a semitruck bed, allowing it to be easily transported. However, no casing or cover is featured to keep the mixer under wraps. When the mixer is brought to a fairground, the truck is stopped, the trailer unhitched, and the mixer unfolded. When unfolded, the mixer assumes the form of a large, three-armed carnival ride, with four sets of two chairs each per arm, making a total of 24 seats for riders. Minifigures can sit in these chairs, and be whirled around while riding, via a turnable TECHNIC axle. Small white railing are placed in front of the seats to keep the occupants safe during the ride.
The mixer is red-, yellow- and blue-themed, with these colours each making an exclusive appearance to each arm of the mixer. The chairs are colourcoded accordingly. The colourscheme extends up to a large projection on top of the mixer, which provides the classic bulb-shape on top of a mixer. Coloured and white lights are prominently placed on top of the arms and this projection. Three large bulb, each portraying the colourscheme of their respective arm, and build at the tip of each arm.
Underneath the mixer, a large gear system transmits turning power from a turnable lever at one end of the trailer. This allows a player to 'remotely' spin the mixer. This also transmits power to the individual arms of the mixer, allowing the chair sets to be spun independently of the main mixer construction. This provides a more thrilling ride for the occupants. At the end of the trailer, in front of where the gearbox is located, a stairway with a platform is modeled, allowing riders to get on and off the mixer with ease. A control box with a lever controls the mixer, and is located on the bottom of the stairs.
A fence model is included with the trailer, and is used to surround the mixer when in operation. This is in order to keep passerby from injury. When not in use, this fence can be folded up and stored on the mixer's trailer.
The Trucks[edit | edit source]
Two truck cabs are included int he set; one of them to haul the mixer, along with its trailer, and one to haul the ticket booth, weight booth and dunk tank. The first truck is blue and white themed, and contains area in the cab for a minifigure to sleep. A television is featured on the wall opposite the pillow of the bunk, enabling a tired minifigure to relax after a hard days' work. Two seating areas are featured in the front of the cab, and one large steering wheel is featured on the traditional American side (or, the left side of the vehicle when one is looking out from inside the cab). It is unknown if European models feature a right-side, "correct" steering wheel placement.
Two opening doors are featured on either side of the cab, as are large rearview mirrors. Windshield wipers are displayed in front of the double windscreens, and a massive air intake is placed under those. A license plate reading "DB 120" is featured between a pair of white headlights at the bottom of the vehicle. In the back, a module for connecting the cab to the trailer is built.
The other truck is blue-themed, and about the same size, although shorter and longer, than the first. It contains many features typical to trucks, such as gas tanks, windshields, a grille, lights, a stickered license plate, vertical exhaust pipes, doors, and space for a minifigure to sit. In the rear of the flatbed of the truck, a pair of black trailer enclosements are seen. These are taken off when the ticket booth and dunk tank are mounted on the vehicle. As well, a small flashlight is placed under the truck bed, and a broom is placed behind the cab.
The Ticket Booth[edit | edit source]
As mentioned, a ticket booth is included in the set. The booth itself is red- and white-themed, with striped of the colour running up and down the walls. Space for a single minifigure to work inside and sell tickets is featured, as is a small printed slope featuring a cash register-suggesting print. A drawer in which to hold money and tickets is placed underneath the ticket counter. Two small clear windows are placed in either side of the teller. As well, a grey garbage can is seen to the side of the booth. In front, a large sign reading "TICKETS" and showing a section of a roll of tickets is prominently displayed. A number of lights are placed around this, to increase visibility. The entire structure on top, when the carnival is over, can be folded down to better enable storage. The rates for tickets, are printed on a brick beneath the counter, are $100 for one ticket, and $200 for two of them.
The Dunk Tank[edit | edit source]
The dunk tank is one of two game booths, and, as the name suggests, consists of a simple dunk tank. A small counter, with two red balls, is included to throw at the tank's target. The tank itself features a number of trans-blue parts, to create a water effect. A sign reading "DUNK TANK", as well as a fish, are stickered on the front of the tank. The rest of the model is built with a light green colourscheme. On the side of the tank, a small red-and-white target is provided to throw balls at. When the lever is triggered, the dunk tank releases a platform which then enables the dunk tanker to fall into the water below. A small ladder is provided on the outside of the tank to assist the water-soaked tanker to climb out.
The Weight Booth[edit | edit source]
The other game booth consists of a weight tester, in which a player attempts to hit a bell by hitting a trigger hard enough. The model consists of a large upright section, along with is featured a number of red and green markings, in order to judge the strength of a player. In front of this is featured a black rod for an object to travel along to the bell. After the target, at the bottom, is hit, a small white ringer shoots up the shaft. If it was hit hard enough, it may get to the top, and win the game. The golden bell, however, is actually unringable in LEGO form. Two hammers, one large and one super large, are included.
Accessories[edit | edit source]
Included in the set is a number of small objects used as accessories, including but not limited to: ice cream cones, juggling sticks, a pair of stilts, a crazy hat, tickets, money, popsicles, a stuffed bear prize, an extra grey hat, and an extra ball for the dunk tank. Twelve minifigures are also featured, including a man for the stilts, a queasy man who, apparently, "tried the mixer one too many times", a dunk tank lady, ticket lady, strongman challenger, truck driver, 2 ladies, 2 girls, and 2 boys as fairgoers.
