Background[edit | edit source]
Teth-Adam lived in Ancient Egypt during Hawkman's first life. The wizard Shazam believed him to be pure, and granted him with powers to become the wizard's champion. Teth-Adam served as Shazam's champion for many years until he was corrupted and became evil. Shazam banished him and dubbed him "Black Adam".
Years later, Shazam chose another champion, Billy Batson, who became Shazam!. Black Adam returned to challenge his successor and became Shazam!'s arch-enemy.
