Rovio has just announced a partnership with The LEGO Group to develop a line of Angry Birds construction toys. The sets will be released in Spring 2016 to go along with the Angry Birds Movie.

Pekka Rantala, chief executive officer of Rovio, said: “The LEGO brand has an unparalleled ability to connect with people through products that spark creativity and imagination. We’re really excited to build experiences together with this amazing best-in-class partner.”

Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment, The LEGO Group, added: “We are excited to bring Angry Birds to life in LEGO form, given the popularity of the game and its characters with fans of all ages. We seek partnership with globally relevant properties that offer a unique and rewarding play experience to our fans, and our designers are having fun developing building sets that leverage the engaging play and deconstruction found in the Angry Birds game.”

I hope they don't use rubber bands to launch the birds. Even more highly powered stud shooters would be good.

I hope that the sets are stable. It always bothers me how the structures in Angry Birds aren't. It's a huge design flaw.

Wow... Not heard of Angry Birds in a few years... It seems a bit late to be making a movie, as I thought it's popularity had died as soon another overly simplistic and repetitively boring ('addictive') game came along. (I think the next game was a flying fish thing with pipes... or at-least it was where I am...)

The movie was green lit in 2013 when the game was popular. I think it's midly popular now, I believe the star was version is doing okay

I'm surprised to see this the K'nex ones didn't sell as well as planned. Also how will LEGO differ the sets? I'm sure each set will be all most the same with different colored bricks and different birds. Unless it's completely different to the game everything will look the same.
