Move from Category:Dinosaurs[edit source]
This move should have gone through BP:PNC because it's quite questionable. First of all, "Dinosaurs" was the name of the theme, and Category:Dinosaurs was the category for the theme. "Avian" and "Non-avian" weren't categories relevant to the theme. Secondly, "Non-avion" is not only a typo but also overly-specific for our articles. Much like BP:NOT states that we are not Wookieepedia, Harry Potter Wiki, etc, we are also not Wikispecies or the Dinosaur Wiki or whatever. We don't particularly need details as specific as avian or not when describing dinosaurs in categories. Perhaps on articles about the dinosaurs themselves it can be mentioned, but when it comes to categorization, 'Dinosaur' is specific enough in my opinion. --ToaMeiko (talk) 23:25, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- It appears the move is to avoid all birds having to be classed as dinosaurs. Sure, this is a technically correct way to define dinosaur without having to put birds in here, but that misses some things:
- Technically correct, while usually interesting, is tedious and sets a rather annoying (and open to abuse) precedent.
- The category was, as Meiko says, for the theme, and so this is creating a conjecture theme for no discernible reason.
- Only the most bitter zoologist/biologist/ecologist/palaeontologist would begrudge people for not taking this nuance into account in their day-to-day lives.
