Doctor Fate is the most powerful mage in the DC Universe. He appears in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and LEGO DC Super Villains.
Description[edit | edit source]
Doctor Fate wears a golden bell-shaped helmet with a dorsal fin and two slanted eye holes. He wears a tight blue suit with a yellow cape, belt, shorts, gloves, and boots. An amulet is strung around his neck.
In LEGO Batman 3, Dr. Fate is able to fly and fire magic, either in blasts or beams which can destroy golden objects.
A variant of Robin called "Helmet Suit" is only playable at the end of the level "The Lantern Menace" where it does not unlock Fate's magic power, but allows Robin to use mind control.
Background[edit | edit source]
Kent Nelson is the son of an archaeologist who is orphaned when his father dies exploring the tomb of the god Nabu. Nabu's spirit takes pity on Kentand raises him to become a sorcerer which could protect humanity as Nabu once had. When Kent is old enough to leave, Nabu gifts him with a helmet and amulet which will transform him into Doctor Fate when he wishes to summon the power of Nabu and increase his magical abilities exponentially. This, however, causes Kent to become possessed by the spirit. As Doctor Fate, Kent is a founding member of the original Justice Society of America, though he retires near the end of World War II. Kent and his wife Inza appear elderly, but Fate's power has granted them extended lifespans which allow them to live to the present day, where Doctor Fate occasionally comes out of retirement to assist the Justice League. Eventually the strain of being Nabu's host becomes too much for Kent and the magic keeping him alive falters, causing both Kent and Inza to pass away. The Helmet of Fate remains a relic of power which both good and evil forces have set their sights on, causing several other heroes to take up the Doctor Fate mantle and many villains to try and usurp Nabu's power.
In the video games[edit | edit source]
The Helmet of Fate is discovered and then eaten by Killer Croc in the Gotham City sewers. He later spits it up and, unrecognized as a powerful relic, is donned by Robin. It protects him from Brainiac's mind control while the other Justice League and Legion of Doom members are helpless, allowing him to rescue Batman, Wonder Woman, and Solomon Grundy from annihilation before they attack and defeat Brainiac.
