Background
Early Years
Batman AKA Bruce Wayne, saw his parents murdered by an armed mugger in an alley on the way home from a play. (Not the Mark of Zorro?)
This, coupled with a previous traumatizing childhood experience, of falling down a hole full of bats, which he got out of with his father's help, but he developed a phobia of bats. He felt he needed justice and inner peace as an adult, he wasn't happy with the Wayne fortune and gambling and drinking, so he traveled the world learning different cultures and martial arts and other fighting forms and arts. He eventually met Henri Ducard, who told him he could join Henri's clan, the League of Shadows, and come to their monastery in the Himalayas. But he had to pass a test, which was retrieving a type of flower from a mountain's summit. Bruce successfully acquired the flower and began his training in martial arts, stealth, interrogation, and fear tactics, all under the tutelage of Ducard and the shadowy leader, Ra's Al' Ghul. Bruce finally reached the last test, which was to kill a criminal that the League had kidnapped. Bruce refused and instead set the monastery ablaze. He then defeated Ra's Al' Ghul in combat and fled the temple with Ducard. Bruce and Ducard went their separate ways and Bruce went home to Alfred and Wayne Manor. He went spelunking and found a big cave under his house. He decided to use his fortune to make sure the same thing that happened to his parents wouldn't happen to anyone else's and to wage a war on crime. he became Batman.
