The Joker is a DC comics character.
Background
The Joker used to be a crime boss by the name and guise of Red Hood. One night, he and his tried to pull a caper at ACE Chemicals in Gotham City. fan:Batman and Robin arrived to stop him. After his henchmen had been defeated, Batman had him cornered on a catwalk over vats of acid. after a scuffle, Red Hood fell off of the catwalk and landed in a one of the acid vats. Batman hadn't meant for the incident to happen, but assumed that Red Hood was dead. Later however, the Hood reemerged, his skin painted a pale, pasty white. He saw himself and thought he looked like a clown. He took on the criminal identity of the Joker, who, to this day, is Batman's nemesis. After years of ongoing struggles, the Joker escaped Arkham Asylum yet again by mixing up some of his lethal laughing gas which kills someone and also freezes their face into a smile. he apparently owned a cruise missile, which he attempted to sell in a foreign country. around this time, Batman and Robin were having difficulties as Jason was becoming increasingly angry, bitter, and violent. Batman was forced to take Jason off duty for awhile, so that left Jason with free time to solve the case of who his real mother was. He used his detective skills and the Bat Computer to narrow it down to three people, one of them being Shiva Woosan. Bruce meanwhile, was going after the Joker. After running in to each other in the country, bruce and Jason found out that their cases had linked, seeing as one of the women Jason was following was with the man that Bruce was following. they stopped the Joker, even though he escaped, and learned that the first woman had never had any babies. After that, they learned that the next woman not only did not have any babies, but she was also Lady Shiva. They finally found the third woman, who was Jason's real mother, but the Joker got to her first and blackmailed her into helping him. Jason saw his mother with the Joker and followed them, against Batman's warnings, to a warehouse where Jason's mom betrayed him, and the Joker ambushed him. The Joker grabbed a crowbar and brutally beat Jason with it. He then locked Jason and his mother in the ware house and set a bomb inside. Batman arrived just in time. to see the warehouse explode. He found the dead bodies of both Jason and his mother.
Years later, Talia Al Guhl used the Lazarus Pits to revive Jason. Jason, now a twisted and violent vigilante, returned to Gotham swearing revenge against the Joker as the Red Hood. He did not kill the Joker, but is now a crimefighter. The Joker and Batman have fought many times since.
