The Master is a character from Doctor Who.

Background

The Master is a Time-Lord and the nemesis of The Doctor. He has mostly used up his regenerations but has been known to steal the bodies of others. Once, to flee the Last, Great Time-War, he went to the End of the Universe and used the same device that The Doctor used to escape from the Family of Blood and turned himself human in his tenth incarnation (though he reverted back to Time-Lord later after using the device again). The Doctor, in his tenth incarnation at the time, took Jack Harkness and Martha Jones to the End of the Universe where they found the remaining humans defending against mutant humanoids called Futurekind, and boarding rockets to fly off and find "Utopia". They ran from Futurekind and found refuge in the facility. There, they realized that The Master was still in his human form years after the Time-War in the guise of Professor Yana. He turned himself back, but had to regenerate because of a bullet wound. He then stole the Doctor's TARDIS so that the only way that the Doctor, Martha, and Jack could get home (Earth, 2008-2010), was by using Jack's unreliable time jumper watch. It worked however, and trio safely returned to Earth. But they found that the Master had stolen the guise of Harold Saxon and is now quite rich and owns a large company and has a wife. The Doctor speaks to the Master on a cell phone, and the Master reminisces about their past together on Gallifrey, the Doctor's home planet. The Master ends up invading the Earth with future humans, which are shriveled, revolting creatures now and are placed inside these mechanical, black, floating spheres with knives and lasers, now called Toclafane. The Master captures Jack Harkness, who gives him a bit of trouble because of Jack's immortality (but that is a story for another time, isn't it, reader?), and Martha, and the Doctor whom he then accelerated the age of so that the Doctor became a little creature that the Master put in a cage. He then made the TARDIS into a machine that allowed him to attack humanity with his Toclafane, creating a time paradox and a crack in the sky. This created an alternate reality in which Martha Jones traveled the world for years telling people about the Doctor. The Master was ultimately defeated and the machine was destroyed so that the alternate reality never happened and The Doctor's age was restored. The adventure ended with The Doctor and Martha knowing what Jack Harkness would be like in hundreds of years.
