As most people know, we have a WikiLove award system, where you can be taken through steps to give someone an award. Personally I'd like to have these all customised to be made relevant for our wiki, so the standardised awards are more relevant. Here's a list of the current awards:

Barnstars
  • Original Barnstar
  • Admin's Barnstar
  • Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
  • Barnstar of Diligence
  • Barnstar of Diplomacy
  • Barnstar of Good Humour
  • Brilliant Idea Barnstar
  • Citation Barnstar
  • Civility Barnstar
  • Copyeditor's Barnstar
  • Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
  • Editor's Barnstar
  • Graphic Designer's Barnstar
  • Half Barnstar
  • Minor Barnstar
  • No Spam Barnstar
  • Photographer's Barnstar
  • Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
  • Real Life Barnstar
  • Resilient Barnstar
  • Rosetta Barnstar
  • Special Barnstar
  • Surreal Barnstar
  • Teamwork Barnstar
  • Technical Barnstar
  • Tireless Contributor Barnstar
  • Writer's Barnstar
  • Gold Brick
  • The LEGO Movie Award 1
  • The LEGO Movie Award 2
  • Project Ninjago Award
Food and Drink
  • Baklava
  • Beer
  • Brownie
  • Bubble tea
  • Cheeseburger
  • Cookie
  • Cup of coffee
  • Cup of tea
  • Cupcake
  • Pie
  • Strawberries
  • Stroopwafels
Kittens
  • Kitten 1
  • Kitten 2
  • Kitten 3

Here's what I'm suggesting:

  • Replace "Barnstars" with "Bricks"- we have a "Gold Brick" award, which could be used in place of the "Original Barnstar". And then come up with new names for some others (green brick for a general reviewer award?). But I don't think we need 28 different barnstars, some of them just won't be used, we could cut down on the number of them and make them more relevant.
  • Remove the "Food and Drink" and "Kitten" categories. They're irrelevant. And the "Beer" one is kind of inappropriate for this wiki. Instead, have new categories- one could be tailor-made BrickiProject awards (maximum of one award per BrickiProject).

Anyway, please post thoughts/suggestions/ideas for awards below. NovaHawk 10:01, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

  • Nova, are you seriously suggesting that we remove pictures of kittens? This is the internet! Kittens must be on every site. CJC95 (talk) 10:54, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Changing the name from barnstars is painful. Barnstars are a tradition older than Wikipedia in the wiki community. See meatball:BarnStar (deriving from meatball:BarnRaising). Personally I don't think WikiProject barnstars should be in WikiLove. Anyone should be able to customise their wiki project's barnstar(s), not just admins who can edit WikiLove.js. All the current barnstars have meaning behind them; I think changing it to "brick" and whatnot might make it lose some of its meaning. --ToaMeiko (talk) 14:04, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
    • I don't really see why we have to follow tradition just for the sake of it though, they just don't feel at all relevant to me. And some of the awards just take up space because they'll never be used (or at least so rarely that there's no need for a standardized template on here), take the "Real Life Barnstar" or "Defender of the Wiki Barnstar" for example. As for project awards- if they're not an admin, the project founder could simply ask an admin to add it to the JS, I know I'd be more than happy to add it. NovaHawk 23:06, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
