Results:

  • Have a type after theme, eg "Star Wars sets" instead of just "Star Wars" ("Star Wars to be used as a supercategory)
  • <year> sets to Sets introduced in <year> (or books, video games, etc)
    • Group item numbers by 1000's
  • For most categories, generate them automatically through the infoboxes
  • Decapitalised categories for most things
  • Super Heroes sets go to their subthemes (DC or Marvel)
  • Minifigures introduced in <year> to Figures introduced in <year>
  • Parts have categories for year they are introduced in and by their Design ID number (grouped by 1000)

Most ideas taken from Forum:Categories, just redoing here to make it a bit more concise and easier for people to read since it's a long forum already, and started years ago so some parts aren't relevant. Please feel free to add more sections as needed. NovaHawk 00:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Set categories[edit source]

Sets in theme[edit source]

Change to "Category:themename sets

  1. Because it makes much more sense. And if we ever get an overall structure going, it'd be better for the theme category to be a supercategory for minifigures, sets, books, etc NovaHawk 00:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
  2. CJC95 (talk) 12:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Keep at "Category:themename"

  • Themename books, gear as well? CJC95 (talk) 12:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Sets from year[edit source]

  • Currently "Category:1999 sets" for example

Change to "Category:Sets introduced in 1999"

  1. It may be longer, but we do it for minifigures without complaining, so why not sets? The wording also makes more sense to me- a set which is released in 1999, but also available in 2000 isn't really just a "1999" set, it was introduced in 1999. Also removes the problem with the item number category (2000 sets for numbers in the 2000-2999 item number range) NovaHawk 00:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
  2. CJC95 (talk) 12:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

  • Would the same apply to the 1999 gear, 1999 books, etc? CJC95 (talk) 12:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Item number- group by 1000's or whatever we're doing?[edit source]

  • Sorry, I know I've brought this up a few times, I lost the last place it was being discussed though. Currently, we group by 1000's for numbers 0-9999, then for 10000-99999 we group by 10000, 100000-999999 we group by 100000 and so on.
Group by 1000's
  1. Because it makes sense. And categories would get way to large NovaHawk 00:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
  2. CJC95 (talk) 12:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Group how we currently do

Automatic categories from infobox[edit source]

  • Basically, if we wanted, we could have the item number categories done automatically. If you stick 4032 in the infobox, it could just add Category:4000 sets. NovaHawk 00:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

xxxx's introduced in (year)[edit source]

  • Currently all figures grouped by year are in "Category:Minifigures introduced in (year)", yet some things like mini-doll figures aren't minifigures. NovaHawk 02:12, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Split so we have Category:Minifigures introduced in (year), Category:Mini-doll figures introduced in (year), Category:DUPLO figures introduced in (year), etc[edit source]

Change Category:Minifigures introduced in (year) to Category:Figures introduced in (year)[edit source]

  1. Covers everything, and everything only uses one category NovaHawk 02:12, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Keep at current category[edit source]

Comments[edit source]

Parts[edit source]

  • I'd like to change the standard categories for parts to two:
    • Parts introduced in (year) - something we already do
    • x000 parts - parts group by their Design ID, in groups of 1000, eg Part 57899 would go in Category:57000 parts.

Support[edit source]

  1. I just think the second is better than sticking everything in Category:Parts, which will become even more useless if we move parts to their own namespace. The part categories can all be done automatically through the infobox. NovaHawk 05:44, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
