Hank Pym is a Marvel Super Heroes minifigure released in 2015. Prior to this physical release, he appeared in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes under his Ant-Man moniker in 2013.
Background[edit | edit source]
In 1963, Dr. Hank Pym discovered an atomic particle that allowed its user to decrease in size, but increase in strength and agility, which he dubs "Pym Particles". Using these, he becomes the superhero Ant-Man and carries out many missions for S.H.I.E.L.D.
However, in 1989, he discovered that S.H.I.E.L.D. was attempting to recreate the Pym Particles. Destroying the lab and data, he resigns, vowing to keep the Ant-Man technology hidden as long as he lived.
In modern day, he is forced out of his own company, Pym Technologies, by his estranged daughter, Hope Van Dyne, and his former protege, Darren Cross. Cross reveals he is close to rediscovering the Ant-Man technology with the Yellow Jacket suit. Though he is unable to shrink living subjects, Pym remains horrified.
He recruits Scott Lang to help steal the Yellow Jacket suit with help from Hope, who spies on Cross for her father. Hank teaches Lang how to use the suit's shrinking abilities and command armies of various ants. Hope and Pym send him to steal a important part from an abandoned Stark Industries warehouse, which turns out to be the Avengers headquarters, and Lang successfully retrieved the part while fending off the Avenger Falcon. Hank reveals that his wife, Janet, had fought alongside him as Wasp, until she sacrificed herself by shrinking down to subatomic levels to disarm an enemy missile, and warns Lang that he could suffer a similar fate if he overrides the suit's safety regulator. Cross perfects the serum and invites Pym to the unveiling ceremony.
However, Scott was captured, as Darren had anticipated the theft. He revealed that he would sell the Yellow Jacket and Ant-Man suits to Hydra. Due to his mental instability caused by exposure to the imperfect serum, he suited up and combated Lang while Hope and Pym escaped the imploding building in a tank that he had kept as a keychain. After Scott had survived the subatomic level to defeat Cross, Hank wondered if Janet could have survived.
Afterwards, he presented Hope with an advanced prototype Wasp suit and offered it to her.
