Lego 2K Goooal! is an upcoming soccer/football-themed game developed by Sumo Digital and published by 2K Games, their second Lego title after Lego 2K Drive. This is the second Lego game based on the sport, following Football/Soccer Mania in 2002.

History[edit | edit source]

In February 2022, VideoGamesChronicle reported on some rumors that The Lego Group and 2K Games were planning to partner together for a series of sports games. The report stated that the first game released would be a football/soccer game developed by Sumo Digital and was expected to release in late 2022, to coincide with the FIFA World Cup, followed by an open-world racing game from Visual Concepts.[1] For unknown reasons, the game did not meet the reported release window, and 2K's partnership with The LEGO Group was not publicly announced for the remainder of the year. In December 2022, the fan site Brick Fanatics reported that a polybag featuring a minifigure in a football uniform, seemingly intended as a tie-in for the rumored soccer/football game, had been discovered on LEGO.com’s Certifications and Policies page, confirming the existence of the game.[2]

In March 2023, The Lego Group officially announced their partnership with 2K Games and their first game, Lego 2K Drive, which was set to release on May 19, 2023.[3] The press release mentioned this was the first in a series of games as part of a "multi-title partnership between 2K and the LEGO Group to develop AAA LEGO games." but did not reveal what any of their other titles would be. In June 2023, a rating was discovered on the South Korean ratings board for the game, revealing that it would be titled LEGO 2K Goooal!. Around this time, a listing on the PlayStation store was briefly published before being taken down.[4] In July, a listing for the game on Amazon UK that was quickly taken down seemed to accidentally reveal September 13, 2023 as the release date but this did not end up being the case.[5] No further information was revealed until February 2024, when it was reported that news about the game was expected in March, with the release sometime in May or June to tie in with the 2024 UEFA European Championship.[6][7] Neither of these estimated dates came true. In October 2024, a user on Twitter/X posted that they had received a message about their preorder from the online retailer HMV stating that it had been delayed indefinitely, as the release date had been changed “to be confirmed” and the company didn’t know when it would be released.[8] A few days later, they posted an update revealing that their preorder had been canceled. In the update, HMV claimed that the initial preorder listing had been published by mistake due to a technical error and that they had received no further information about the game [9] They also pointed out that this seemed to be directly in response to their previous post and someone involved with the game may have seen it, as they had featured the full order number for their preorder, and another preorder for the game on another console that wasn't shown hadn't been canceled.[10]

As of November 2025, the status of the game is currently unknown and it appears to have been quietly canceled amidst a series of other cancellations and layoffs from 2K's parent company, Take-Two Interactive.[11][12]
