Nearly Headless Nick (known as Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington) is a minifigure of a ghost that appears as a playable character in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4.[1]
Background[edit | edit source]
He was a wizard who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Gryffindor house. He was executed by an improper decapitation, after he argued with Lady Grieve. His head is still partially attached to his neck. Since then, he is the resident ghost of Gryffindor Tower at the Hogwarts Castle. He attempts to join the Headless Hunt every year, but his request is always denied since he is not fully decapitated.[2] In Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets, Nick is the 3rd or 4th person to be petrified (no one knows since he and Justin Finch-Fletchley were attacked by The Basilisk at the same time).
Nick appeared in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4. Before the player beats the game, he will lead them to the area of Hogwarts that that will start the next level by leaving a trail of "ghost studs" for them to follow (there is an extra to make the ghost studs have actual worth). After completing the final level, the player can play as Nick. To do this, they must find his token in Dumbledore's office at the top of the grand staircase, then purchase the character at Madam Malkin's in Diagon Alley. Because Nick is a ghost, the player cannot use magic while playing as him and he does not have a special ability. He can scare people and they will become frozen for a moment.
Nick also appeared in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 as a non-playable character in the console versions and replaced by the Fat Lady, but he's playable in the handheld versions of the game.
