Plates are large, flat LEGO pieces that are one third of the height of a standard brick.

Plates have been around for almost as long as bricks. The first plates had a "waffle" bottom. This was replaced starting in the late 1950s with the current bottom, however both types were produced simultaneously for a long time. In the past, they have been called "slimbricks".
