The Build[edit | edit source]
Mini-doll figures[edit | edit source]
Last year we didn't get many interesting mini-doll prints from Friends besides Sophie's face mask and Julian's gorgeous torso. This year is defiantly changing that with Luis, Charlotte, Nate, Susan, Livi, and Heartlake City's hair salon worker, Natasha. Natasha reuses Wyldstyle's hair but it's recoloured in Cool Yellow, she also ditches the medium azur streak. So far this hairpiece is exclusive and most people are finding the hair piece very useful. Unfortunately Natasha's face print isn't as exciting she reuses Olivia's. Anna's or Ms. Stevens's would've maws her a more interesting figure. Natasha's torso is the most exciting part of her. The designers seem to have tried to make it as realistic as possible, and I think they did an amazing job. If I have to nick pick, it annoys me Natasha, Theresa, Marie, Sarah, and Naya all use the normal female mini-doll torso while the other adults in the theme, Ms. Stevens, Anna, Susan and Charlotte all use an adult female torso. I think all adult female mini-dolls should be given this piece. Natasha's accessory is the new scissors piece, which is still pretty rare. Natasha's skirt is reused from Stephanie's but it suits her so I don't care.
Emma is a strange choice as she already appeared getting her hair done in 3187 Butterfly Beauty Shop and it was established Emma only trusts Sarah with her hair. I guess only is apparently a broad term and Emma has swapped Sarah for Natasha. All Emma's parts are reused from previous sets. I do like her torso and skirt combination however and I think they contrast each other quite nicely.
Hair trolly[edit | edit source]
The set contains no side builds beside this (if it counts). It has two perfume bottles and a scissors on the side. The wheels and the stand (a repurposed hinge) are a nice touch. The yellow corner pieces to hold the medium lavender accessories (more on those later) is nice, but you have to squeeze them in if you want two in it.
The hair salon[edit | edit source]
The hair salon itself looks very striking from all angles. This must be one of the best roofs we've received from LEGO. Oh and the new lavender pieces are gorgeous! I like the scissors sign build but unfortunately it's not designed to be movable and if you move it it will break. I think this is unfortunate as I imagine children would've liked to move the scissors. Is that a picture of Livi under the sign? :O. The open sign on the door looks cute and I imagine it will be useful in customs. The lavender large cylinder pieces to the sides of the door are exclusive here. The bright reddish violet/black rug leading pj to the door looks cute too. I love the metallic bowls to the sides of the building, mainly because they're exclusive. But it is very Friends-esc to include random flowers. The white flat cylinder piece with a stud in the middle is becoming more and more common but it's still nice to get two more. I don't know why the shampoo stand is outside the building, where do you purchase the bottles?
The inside is quite interesting. The right has a cool looking coffee machine and magazine rack. The magazine rack has three magazines one of a talk show host?, one of a hot air balloon and one of Livi! The wig stand across from it is disappointing, mainly due to the fact there's only two choices. I would've liked a lot more due to the fact this is a hair salon! Nether the less the dark red hair is exclusive and Anna's finally returns. The mirror sticker in the hand held mirror makes it second appearance. The new medium lavender accessories look great! I'm sick of the medium lilac ones being used again and again. The hair washing section to the end looks fantastic! The chairs in this set look gorgeous! The black and bright reddish violet colours really contrast nicely. To the left there's some awkward title placing, was this necessary? The stand beside it holds various shampoos and tools for hair. To the side of the that there's a really pretty looking mirror. Theres a nothing lovely looking chair in front of it. Lastly there's a cash register thrown at the back.
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
Build/Design | 4 / 5 |
Playability | 5 / 5 |
Parts | 4½ / 5 |
Price | 4½ / 5 |
Overall | 4½ / 5 |
Overall this is great! The biggest problem for me is the colour scheme, it would've been nicer to see a smaller colour palette used. The random tiling, trolley and exterior shampoo are questionable design choices too. Otherwise this set is nearly perfect in my eyes. Overall I give this 9/10. What do you think of this set? Be sure to let me know in the comments?
Looks like Olivia's getting her hair done! Who will you have visit your hair salon?
Anyways, thanks for reading my review! I hope you liked it <3 Soup
