LEGO Logo.jpg Building Experience: Enough is enough

Agent: Berrybrick
Real name: Unknown
Rank: Pawn
Backstory: Never having collected the original Agents nor Alpha Team sets, Berrybrick is a fresh face when it comes to sets like this. Keep an eye on him, such a tragic backstory has often meant ulterior motives....

I don't always get to the good sets until the end of the year, wasting the earlier months with minifigure sets and part packs. I could imply that Infearno Interception is an exception to the "end of the year good sets" with a rhetorical question, but it actually isn't. And if that's all you need, so be it, but the usual text wall has been supplied below for your convenience.

There are a few rare parts included in this set, the silver bows, and transparent blue dishes. The windscreen and red surfboard are both exclusive.

We have two bags, which is pretty normal for a set this size. As can clearly be told from the box, the only thing to build aside from the board is what LEGO.com calls a "cool convertible hover car" (clearly they are a bit confused as to what it is too) meaning that there is a split about halfway through its build to open a new bag. Though the surfboard is snapped together pretty quickly, the car is much more substantial than I had expected and is designed very well. It does not exactly have the vibe that I was expecting, something light and speedy, but this makes it feel like it packs more of a punch (and the Agents have enough tiny vehicles for the agility in other sets, anyway). It has a good bit of weight to it.

There are a few flaws, such as the way that the hubcaps on the front two wheels don't move as much as they should (the pieces I received that they attach to might just be tighter than they should be). In regards to aesthetics, there is a gap under the windshield that probably could not be filled and a red ball on the back of the car, to denote a play feature, which is an eyesore.

Issues are easier to point out than successes, though, and the entire set is designed solidly. This set includes my first spring missile launchers (I know, I've grown up so fast), and though they are sensitive and tacky, they are satisfying to shoot (yet easy to lose). They won't be something that everyone will like. The ejection function is also fun, but it will sometimes get trapped in the cab. This might alleviate as the tightness loosens. The car is also able to transform into a hover mode, which does look slightly odd from some angles, because of the chunkiness of the vehicle and because the turbines are not all oriented in the same direction, but it still contributes to a fun look.

Solomon Blaze's torso is a little plain and its reuse might be a bit limited by the badge on his chest. However, his leg brace will probably come in useful, his face certainly will. It stands out a bit for being grizzled, but older. I have already used his hair, this being the first minifigure to have that hairpiece in a gray color.

Infearno's design is interesting, since his torso is basically a furnace. It kind of reminds me of some of the Phoenix torsos from Chima, but much more modern. His legs will probably be more useful, as will his face for (other) fiery demons. Obviously though, the big draws are the space marine armor in bright red and the flaming headpiece.

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

This was my last set of 2014, and it is probably my favorite. The build is more intense than most other sets I have spent my time with and the final model is much more substantial. It does almost feel like it should have been a few dollars cheaper, but maybe I only say that because it has only two figures.
