Hi there. I'm LK901, and today I will be reviewing one of the winter wave Ninjago sets, 70756 Dojo Showdown. The set includes 215 pieces, and four minifigures, Kai in his Tournament robes, Griffin Turner, the Master of Speed, Karlof, the Master of Metal and Chope, one of Chen's thugs. It retails for €24.99/$29.99, which is in my opinion, quite reasonable. I actually received a fifth minifig - Sleven, but I've contacted LEGO and they say it is an error. Lucky me :)

The Box[edit | edit source]

The box is smallish, around the size of a standard 20$ set.

Minifigures[edit | edit source]

Kai-rvw.JPG

Kai comes in his tournament robe which is similar to his techno robe variant from 2014 which I also own. He has ornate black and red clothing, bare arms, and black gloves. He uses the same red bandanna piece introduced in 2014 for the techno robes, and the same hair as his techno robe variant. Overall, a very nice figure. I'm very glad that the tournament robes have leg printing unlike the techno robes from last year. He is armed with a golden staff/scythe, which is odd, since he is never seen armed with this in the TV show.

Karlof-rvw.JPG Karlof-back-rvw.JPG

Karlof is a very cool minifigure. He has a mainly black torso, with silver and brown accents. He has silver ZX shoulderpads, Nya's samurai X helmet (sans mouthguard), and he has a frowning single sided face that I believe came in a castle set before. His legs are unprinted, and black. His most defining feature, and his only weapons are his 'mittens' as Kai describes them. They were introduced in 2013 for a Chima set, and I didn't have any before I got this set. Very cool looking, to be sure. Karlof is one of my favourite Elemental masters, so I'm very glad that he is included in this set.

Griffin Turner, the Master of Speed is the second Elemental master included in the set. He has a mainly white torso, with red detailing.

He has a double sides yellow face, with one side showing him with red sunglasses and a confident expression, and the other an angry/annoyed expression. He has a very cool 'whipped back' hairstyle that is, as far as I know, quite rare. His torso is white, with a triangle of exposed skin above the seams of his robe. He has a red belt with a shuriken tucked underneath it and a circle with an hourglass symbol printed on it. This symbol is also printed on his back, albeit larger. His belt continues on his back, and numerous grey seams are also printed. Turner is armed with a wooden staff, which I think fits his character quite well. All in all, and excellent minifigure, which would be nearly worth this price of the set on his own.

Chope-rvw.JPG

Chope is a member of Chen's gang, or as I prefer to call them, 'Anacondrai cultists'. He has a tan anacondrai 'skull' headpiece, which is not only very unique, but also is very accurate to the show.

Build[edit | edit source]

Playability[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

I'm not sure exactly what seen this set is based on from the show. I have seen every episode of the season, and never once do we see a temple like this. I guess it could be Chen's palace/temple, and the trap door seems to support that, but it still doesn't really resemble anything very much. Not that it matters from the sets point of view, but still. Griffin and Karlof are both very important characters in the show, and the only masters who would make more sense to be in set form would have to be Neuro, or Shade.

Verdict[edit | edit source]

Overall, this is a great set. The minifigs and weapons make overlooking the mediocre build easy.
