Wu, also known by Sensei Wu and Master Wu, and briefly as Techno Wu, Mysterious Baby, Teen Wu, and the Golden Dragon Master, is Elemental Wizard Wizard Sorcerer Mage Magician of Creation Light Good Hope and Love Garmadon's brother Lloyd's uncle Misako's brother-in-law First Spinjitzu Master's son Overlord's nephew Firstbourne and The Omega's grandson and a Ninjago minifigure first released in January of 2011. He is a main character in Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
Description[edit | edit source]
Wu's first variation is of a white kimono with a black belt. Much of his torso is covered by a long, white beard and mustache which also covers his wrinkled face, but an orange emblem which also appears on his back can still be seen on his upper left, in addition to various creases. He wears a tan, straw hat
In his second variation, Sensei once again wears a tan, straw hat and has an elderly face covered with a white beard. He wears a black torso with golden, Japanese characters running down the right side. He has a grey tie that extends down from his neck and around his chest to end at a tie at his hips. His legs are black, arms white, and hands yellow.
As a microfigure, Wu is a smaller version of his first variation. He does not have accessories resembling his hat or beard. The beard is rather printed on his face and resembles his normal head without the beard piece with a much smaller, but still bushy, mustache and a tiny beard on his chin. His kimono design is mostly the same, but simplified.
In the 2012 variation he wears a different white kimono, the same hat, except in Epic Dragon Battle and Temple of Light, where it was gold, the same face, and the same beard. The kimono now features a grey belt. The kimono is split between two grey sashes running up it with minute dragons on the left and red slashes on the right.
In his Evil Wu variation he has the same hat as in previous variants, except in silver, and unprinted black legs. His beard is the same as before, but in black. His eyes are red, with metallic printing, to show that he is a cyborg. His torso is white, with black accents. He has a black belt printed on his torso. He has a black staff and handcuffs as accessories.
In LEGO Battles: Ninjago[edit | edit source]
In LEGO Battles: Ninjago, Wu is a playable unit and appears with three variations.
His first one resembles his first variation. He carries his staff and is hunched over.
The second one also resembles his first variation, but he is now armed with the Sword of Fire, standing upright, and his legs and hands are more grey in colour.
The third and final design is now based off of his black kimono. He once again carries his staff, but he is not hunched over.
Wu is able to use Spinjitzu and "Fiery Touch" as attacks, but is also able to use "Spinjitzu Helping Hand" and "Army Heal".
Background[edit | edit source]
As a young boy Wu lived at a monastery with his father and his brother, Garmadon, who was also his best friend. During one of their duels, Garmadon disarmed Wu's katana and accidentally flung it over the monastery walls, since their father would be upset about it, Garmadon asked for Wu to go and retrieve the sword, only for Wu to refuse and get chided by Garmadon for it, saying to Wu "Never put off for tomorrow, what could be done today," before hopping the wall to get back his brother's sword for him, only for Garmadon to get bitten by The Great Devourer and infect him with its evil.
Years later after their father passed away, Wu and Garmadon fought in the Serpentine War against the Anacondrai and Master Chen's cultists, and later the Time Twins Acronix and Krux. Later still, Wu managed to defeat Garmadon, now using his title of "Lord" granted by Chen, in a battle over The Four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. After defeating his brother, Sensei Wu hid each of the weapons and had a dragon of the corresponding element guard each one.
He then created a map and gave it to a blacksmith who helped him defeat Garmadon to safe guard for him in case he and his wife captured by Krux before the weapons required collecting.
Shortly after the blacksmith and his wife captured by Krux, Wu appeared again at his shop, called Four Weapons now run by their children, Kai and Nya and expressed disdain for the Samurai weapons that they are not suited for ninja. He then disappears. At this time, Garmadon, who had taken control of the Skulkin army over from Samukai, put into effect a plan to steal the weapons and the Skulkin attacked the shop, took the map, and kidnapped Nya. Wu reappeared to Kai and recruited him into his quartet of students, along with Jay, Zane, and Cole to help him rescue his sister. On their quest to retake the map and get the weapons before Samukai, Wu advises the ninja but acts as no immediate help until they reach the Fire Temple where Kai believes he sees Nya. Nya is actually an illusion created by Garmadon to lead Kai into the temple where the real Nya was being dangled perilously. Kai took the Sword of Fire and freed her, but they were attacked by Garmadon's shadow form. Wu rescued them and sacrificed himself and the Sword of Fire by going to the Underworld to allow Kai and Nya to escape.
The ninja recruited the guardian dragons to rescue Wu and the weapons (the other three had been stolen by Samukai previously). They were successful, but not before Samukai was destroyed when he took all four weapons at once and created a vortex which Garmadon escaped through.
Rise of the Snakes[edit | edit source]
Wu insists that the ninja keep training for Garmadon's return when Nya informs them that he indeed has. This turns out to be partly false as Wu's nephew, Lloyd Garmadon is terrorizing the village. After defeating Lloyd, the ninja discovered a scroll that had fallen from Wu's bag that told the prophecy of a Green Ninja.
To gain power, Lloyd began freeing the different Serpentine tribes who could only be repelled by Wu's magic flute. Lloyd also defected to his uncle's side after reading Never Trust a Snake and Wu uses him to teach the ninja about the destructive power of rumours.
When Lloyd was kidnapped by the serpentine in Pythor's quest to free The Great Devourour, the now four-armed Lord Garmadon joins forces with Wu and the ninja to rescue his son. After Lloyd is rescued, he is revealed to be the green ninja of the prophecy, but the ninja and Samurai X are captured by the Serpentine before they were rescued by the Garmadons and the Skulkin.
To try and prevent Pythor's plan from succeeding, Wu took the Fang Blades, which had been acquired by his students previously, to a volcano to destroy them. However, Pythor sabotages Destiny's Bounty and Wu falls overboard. The ninja rescue him, but Pythor collects the blades while they are distracted.
Wu, Samurai X, and the ninja go in pursuit of the Serpentine to rescue the Fang Blades and after Cole defeats Skales Wu goes after the only Serpentine left on the bus, Pythor. However, the Mailman bicycling in front of the bus causes it to take a sharp turn and flip. Pythor escapes and releases The Great Devourer, but not before Wu can put Pythor in its path, Wu again sacrificed himself and both were devoured.
After Garmadons, Nya, and the ninja defeat the monster, Wu is found to be alive, though Pythor, Lord Garmadon, and The Four Weapons (which were used by Garmadon to defeat The Great Devourer) are nowhere to be found.
During the clean-up of Ninjago City, Wu informed the original four ninja that it is now there duty to train Lloyd for the destined battle between himself and his father.
Legacy of the Green Ninja[edit | edit source]
When Lord Garmadon does return, once again on the opposing side and allied with the Serpentine, he uses a Megaweapon created from the four golden ones to create a portal to go back in time, though Kai, Zane, Cole, and Jay follow him. They meet the past's Sensei Wu and informed him of what time they are from and why they are there.
Eventually, several souvenirs in the museum are brought to life by the venom Great Devourer, and Wu and the ninja go to investigate. There, he encounters Misako, who is revealed to be Lloyd's mother. Soon afterwards Wu volunteers to help Misako with sort through her research on the green ninja prophecy, and it is revealed that they had a romantic past together when Misako says, "I should have chosen you". On the same day as this occurs, the Devourers venom reawakens the entire Stone Army underneath the city. The army begins attacking the city, and Wu, Misako, and the ninja work together to protect the citizens. During the disaster, Misako loses her research and must leave safety to try and retrieve them. Sensei Wu rushes off to save her, and they successfully retrieve the notes, but they are soon surrounded by Stone Warriors. They eventually jump out of the building they were in, but are saved by the Destiny's Bounty.
They set sail to the Dark Island, but the Destiny's Bounty's thrusters are damaged en route. They land on a small island where it is revealed that Dr. Julien was held, and he repairs their thrusters, enabling them to continue their voyage.
At the Dark Island, Wu assists the ninja on their various missions, but mainly stays near the camp. He is, however, present when the ninja attempt to return the Helmet of Shadows to its pedestal to stop the final battle, but the group fails and Nya is separated from the rest of the group, who fall when a portion of the cliff they were standing on falls into the water. Kai and Jay want to rescue Nya, but Wu states that preparing for the final battle should be their priority, and that they can rescue Nya later. Soon afterwards, they find out about Garmadon's Super Weapon and track it to the Dark Island's coast. Their, they discover the Overlord's plan to fire Dark Matter to Ninjago to alter "the balance" and make it so he is able to cross over there. He also takes over Garmadon's body and fights Lloyd. In the aftermath, Lloyd breaks his leg and fails to stop the Overlord, who keeps the group alive but crosses over to Ninjago, leaving them behind.
The group sit on the beach, beginning to admit defeat, but Lloyd rallies them on and the Falcon informs them of another secret hidden in the Temple of Light. There, they find the Golden Robot, and they use this as well as the Ultra Dragon to escape the Dark Island and reach Ninjago. They proceed to fight the Stone Warriors, and Lloyd succeeds in defeating the Overlord. Garmadon is returned to normal in the process, and he reunites with is family. The ninjas realize that their mission is over for the time being, but inform Wu that they'll always be ninjas.
Rebooted[edit | edit source]
Many months later, Wu has opened "Sensei Wu's Youth Academy." When the school goes on a field trip to Borg Industries, his ninja acquire the Techno Blades from Cyrus Borg in order to defeat the Overlord virus. Wu aids the ninja in protecting the people from the Overlord's forces. Wu is then captured while playing out his plan to get Lloyd and the Techno Blades out of the city. The Overlord gains access to Wu's memories to find out where the ninja took the Techno Blades.
Eventually, the Ninja managed to use their elemental powers to create a new spaceship home while the Nindroids returned with the Golden Weapons and melted them down to create a Golden Mech. Garmadon, Wu, Nya, and P.I.X.A.L. sent the Ninja their vehicles as they arrived back in Ninjago and together they all charged into New Ninjago City where the Overlord was wrecking havoc.
Making their way to the Temple of Fortitude, they met up with a cured Cyrus Borg who revealed his shrinking pill and proposed they use it on the Overlord. Remembering their times playing ball as kids, Garmadon assured the Ninja that he and Wu would be able to do it and they set off towards the Golden Master. Garmadon and Wu shot the pill towards the Overlord, but Pythor managed to swallow it and in order to defeat the Overlord, Zane sacrificed himself. Wu later attended Zane's funeral. ("The Titanium Ninja")
Tournament of Elements[edit | edit source]
Some time later, the Ninja left Ninjago Island with Garmadon to participate in Master Chen's Tournament of Elements. Wu stayed on Ninjago and helped Nya track them down. The Ninja later returned on their Elemental Dragons and Chen unexpectedly revealed that Garmadon had married Misako only because he had signed Wu's own love letter, causing a rift between the two brothers. Although Wu and Misako forgave Garmadon, the older brother had Wu and Lloyd banish him the Cursed Realm, seemingly to never see him again.
Posession[edit | edit source]
Wu then opened the tea shop "Steep Wisdom" on the site of Garmadon's old monastery, hoping to finally settle down, but soon sold it to Cyrus Borg when his former student Morro returned as a ghost, having escaped the Cursed Realm. Wu then began to train Nya to become the Water Ninja and played a major part in the final battle against Morro and his master, the Preeminent. Although he offered to save Morro from his ultimate death, the Master of Wind, having had a change of heart, declined and finally died.
Skybound and Day of the Departed=[edit | edit source]
Although Nadakhan was able to trap Wu in the Teapot of Tyrahn and later the Djinn Blade as his second victim (second only after Clouse) along with other prisoners in order to create a new Djinjago, the wish made by Jay prevented this event from occuring. During the Day of the Departed, Wu and the Ninja were warned by Morro about Yang's plan to become human again.
Hands of Time[edit | edit source]
Wu soon faced another pair of old enemies, the Time Twins Acronix and Krux. Wu recklessly attempted to defeat Acronix in one-to-one combat but was hit by the Time Punch, causing him to age rapidly. He was eventually saved by the effects of the Reversal Time Blade but was lost to time to keep Acronix and Krux occupied.
Sons of Garmadon and Hunted[edit | edit source]
He eventually resurfaced in the form of a mysterious baby and was discovered by Misako and later the Sons of Garmadon. Wu was soon rescued from the Sons of Garmadon by Cole, who had no idea that the mysterious infant was his missing mentor. The baby showed incredible intelligence and prowess, growing rapidly and being able to use tools and drink tea. After uttering the phrase, "Ninja never quit," the Ninja realized who the baby really was. In the Realm of the Oni and Dragon, Wu grew from a toddler to a young child to a white-haired, mustachioed, teenager and became the "Golden Dragon Master" by donning his father's old armor and taming the Firstbourne Dragon. Wu then helped Lloyd confront and defeat the resurrected evil Lord Garmadon and eventually returned to his proper age and appearance.
March of the Oni[edit | edit source]
In season ten, Wu and his students have taken up residence at the repaired Monastery of Spinjitzu, which now features a history commemorating their various triumphs. The unveiling is cut short when the Firstbourne arrives with Faith, warning of an attack on the First Realm by the "bringers of doom." Recalling the phrase as used by his father, Wu identifies the threat as the Oni, and sends the Ninja forth to warn the citizens of Ninjago City against the threat. They later return with Garmadon and the armor of the Golden Master in tow, and report the sad news of Cole's apparent loss, which Wu is deeply affected by as Misako comforts him.
Despite his grief, Wu watches as Kai melts down the armor to reforge the Golden Weapons, and then joins his remaining students, Garmadon, and Faith in standing against the approaching Oni army. The group is happily joined by a returning Cole, but are forced back into the monastery by weight of numbers. Lloyd, inspired by the mural, suggests performing the Tornado of Creation, and Wu takes part with all six Ninja and Garmadon. The move defeats the Oni, and after a brief scare with Lloyd seemingly having perished, Wu bids farewell to Garmadon as his brother departs. He later attends a ceremony in which the Ninja add their handsprints to the mural in commemoration of their victory.
Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitzu[edit | edit source]
In "Wasted True Potential", Wu gets fed up when the Ninja neglect their training and laze abut even months after defeating the Oni. After expressing his irritation, he subjects them to a variety of traps and ambushes meant to help them regain their usual vigilance, many of them involving a lightning-shooting chicken. Eventually, Wu faces them in a battle, and despite being outnumbered six-to-one easily defeats his students. Having proven his point quite effectively, Wu continues his efforts to whip them back into shape.
In "Questing for Quests", Lloyd evokes further irritation from Wu by approaching him for a "quest tip" in order to prove that the Ninja are up to their duties as defenders of Ninjago. In "A Rocky Start", Wu is surprised when the Ninja take it upon themselves to leave the monastery in search of a new quest. He and Pixal thus present them with a new set of vehicles, though the Ninja leave without familiarizing themselves with the operating manuals. In "The News Never Sleeps!", Lil' Nelson and Antonia alert Wu as to the Ninja's predicament, and Wu thanks Nelson and notes that the boy reminds him of Lloyd.
In "Ninja vs. Lava", Pixal arrives to rescue the Ninja after being alerted to their peril by Wu. In "Ancient History", several of the Ninja learn of Aspheera's long ago friendship with and supposed betrayal by a young boy. They alert Wu to this, believing that she is seeking revenge on Garmadon, only for Wu to admit that the "friend" Aspheera wishes to be avenged on...is him. In "Never Trust a Human", Wu explains his history with Aspheera. In "Under Siege", Kai becomes furious with Wu for never telling them about Aspheera previously, after how strict he's been with them in the past.
Having taken refuge in the monastery's vehicle bay as Aspheera's forces attack, Wu and the others strive to complete the Titan Mech while some of the Ninja recover the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu in "The Explorer's Club". In "Vengeance Is Mine!", Aspheera's forces break through, and discover Wu's group despite their taking refuge in a hidden compartment. Using the second scroll, Zane is able to defeat her, only to be seemingly destroyed when she fires off a final blast intended for Wu. Wu visits the defeated Aspheera at Kryptarium Prison, condemning her for destroying Zane, only to learn that she has done the one thing that might be considered worse: banish him to the Never-Realm.
In "A Cold Goodbye", Wu informs the other Ninja and Pixal of this news but insists that he will go to the Never-Realm alone to rescue Zane. The Ninja refuse to go along with this, and steal a bag of Traveler's Tea Wu had prepared to take with him; Wu retaliates by attacking them with the remaining Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu. This time, the Ninja overpower Wu, and Pixal uses the scroll to transport them and the Land Bounty to the Nver-Realm. Unfortunately, due to having been gagged by his students after being subdued, Wu was unable to inform them that the Traveler's Tea they have taken won't work in the Never-Realm, as he had expected to save Zane but be trapped himself.
In "The Kaiju Protocol", Wu and Pixal desperately attempt to open a portal to the Never-Realm using Traveler's Tea, with Wu bitterly speaking of the Ninja going after Zane in defiance of his wishes. After a number of failed attempts, they inadvertently open a portal to the Departed Realm, allowing the Preeminent back into Ninjago. Pixal confronts the beast in her new mech, and nearly perishes in the attempt to defeat it. Relieved at her success and victory, Wu forgives her for her role in helping the Ninja defy his wishes. Having exhausted their Traveler's Tea to send the Preeminent back to the Departed Realm, Wu also agrees to hold out hope that the Ninja will find their own way back to Ninjago.
In "The Message" and "Corruption", Wu is mentioned by Zane in a recording he left behind in the event anything went wrong with his attempts to repair the Titan Mech in the Never-Realm. In "Awakenings", he and Pixal are in the monastery courtyard when a portal from the Never-Realm unexpectedly opens. Much to their relief, all the Ninja, including Zane, emerge from the portal having survived their trials in the Never-Realm.
Prime Empire[edit | edit source]
Like Zane and Pixal, Wu remains behind in Ninjago while the remainder of the team enters the world of the video game Prime Empire, and assists in the search for Milton Dyer. When Zane is abducted by the Mechanic, Wu desperately searches for him in "The Prodigal Father", only to have the Mechanic's Gang invade the monastery. They manage to knock Wu out with gas and then bring him to the Mechanic's lair, where he has built a machine to allow Unagami and other game characters to enter the real world. Wu is able to alert Pixal as to their location, but the Mechanic is able to threaten him to force Zane to surrender the last component he needs for his machine. As a helpless Wu looks on, Zane is then plugged into the machine to serve as a capacitor.
In "Game Over", Pixal and Milton Dyer arrive and free Wu and Zane, but the Mechanic's purpose has been achieved and the Prime Empire characters enter the real world. Fortunately, Jay also returns and informs the group that Unagami wishes to confront Milton Dyer. Wu, Zane, and Pixal escort the programmer across Ninjago City to Borg Tower, fighting various enemies and protecting the populace along the way. Their efforts pay off, and Unagami is reconciled with Dyer. The other Ninja and Ninjago citizens are freed from the game world, as are all the characters who wish to remain in Ninjago.
Master of the Mountain[edit | edit source]
In "Shintaro", Wu falls into a state of depression, feeling as though his students no longer need his assistance given their recent successes. Lloyd and Misako try to snap him out of it, but Wu considers it a natural progression of his students becoming more experienced. When an invitation arrives for the group to visit the kingdom of Shintaro, Wu is initially uninterested in going due to his ongoing funk. However, when he makes the mistake of assuming that Misako sympathizes with his feelings of being old and worn out, he is quickly bullied into going along. Though the Ninja are attacked by hostile Dire Bats, they are rescued by the Shintaro Royal Guard and make their way safely to the city.
In "Into the Dark", Wu and his students are warmly greeted by King Vangelis and his daughter Vania. However, later that night, they are disturbed when Cole reports a creature invading his room in possession of a necklace that belonged to Cole's mother, Lilly. Despite having once been Lilly's mentor as well, Wu doubts Cole's claims due to having no memory of Lilly owning a necklace.
In "The Skull Sorcerer", Wu-having learned that the Dungeons of Shintaro are ruled over by a tyrannical sorcerer wielding the Skull of Hazza D'ur-joins Cole and Vania in attempting to alert Vangelis as to the threat. However, to their horror, they learn that Vangelis himself is the Skull Sorcerer, and he proceeds to open a trap door that sends Wu and Cole plummeting into the depths below Shintaro. In "The Real Fall", Vania-having chosen her newfound friends over her misguided father-joins Wu and Cole in their plunge, which sees them descend through numerous subterranean levels and encountering a number of creatures. Eventually, they arrive in a cavern where they meet the Lowly, a trio of adventurers-and their pet giant spider.
As Wu and the others learn in "Dungeon Party!", the Lowly-minus their spider-were condemned to the mountain's depths after delivering the Skull of Hazza D'ur to Vangelis. Having been frustrated in their own attempts to escape, they have given up hope, but Cole urges them to try again and starts by giving the group-now including Wu, Vania, and himself-the new name of "the Upply". In "Dungeon Crawl!", the group manage to find a way of escaping Rock-Bottom after Wu's counsel helps Cole connect with the power of the earth around him. Cole saves Wu's lives as they make their way through a flooded tunnel, though Cole brushes it off as simply repaying Wu for the many times he's saved Cole. The group are then forced to contend with a magma monster, but seemingly succeed in defeating it.
The monster proves unexpectedly resilient, and in "Masters Never Quit" the group escape it only to come across the Heart of the Mountain, an ancient temple. Wu encourages Cole to attempt to unlock the powers of the Spinjitzu Burst, feeling that it's essential to defeating the Skull Sorcerer. This becomes particularly urgent after they learn that Grief-Bringer has been resurrected by the villain and is attacking the other Ninja. Vania, seeing Cole's difficulties, urges Wu to help his student, and Wu is able to overcome his feelings of inadequacy and take charge.
In "The Ascent", Wu and the others reluctantly decide to go along with Cole's plan to get them out of the depths: fitting a mech they discovered in the Heart of the Mountain with minecart wheels and using it to travel up a set of tracks. Despite some harrowing encounters with Dire Bats and the magma monster, they make their way back up to Shintaro. Upon being confronted by the Shintaro Royal Guard and accused of treason, Wu resolves to stay with Vania and deal with the guards while Cole and the others go to help the other Ninja. In "The Son of Lilly", Wu rides Vania's dragon Chompy into the final battle with the Skull Sorcerer, and later departs Shintaro with his students, eager for the next adventure.
Island[edit | edit source]
Wu and Misako join an expedition led by Clutch Powers to the Island of the Keepers, where they run afoul of the native Keepers and are taken prisoner. Eventually, the Ninja arrive to rescue them, and discover in the process that Ronin has been using a fake Wojira to blackmail the Keepers into surrendering their valuables. Once Ronin and his gang have been apprehended, Lloyd briefly discusses the possibility of the real Wojira with Wu and Misako.
Seabound[edit | edit source]
In "A Big Splash", the Ninja inform Wu of Nya's powers going out of control during their confrontation with Miss Demeanor. Wu searches through his library but finds that there is no information on the power of water, as his father never mastered it or the power of wind. As he explains, these powers belonged to Wojira, who was defeated by an alliance between Wu's father and a mysterious warrior. Wu suggest that Kai reach out to Maya, and despite some initial reluctance Kai does so, much to Nya's annoyance.
In "The Call of the Deep", Nya appeals to Wu regarding her mother's presence, hoping he will help get rid of her, but Wu feels that Nya should give Maya a chance. Later, when Zane and Pixal report on an energy signal from the Tartarus Trench that they believe to be responsible for disrupting Nya's powers, Wu instructs Pixal to prepare the Hydro Bounty. In "Unsinkable", Wu goes to the Ninjago City Docks with the team to look over their vessel. When Nya expresses some reluctance, he convinces her to board the Bounty as a means of getting away from her mother. Wu, meanwhile, remains at the monastery with Kai, Cole, and Ray, and he wants to see Ray might be affected by Kai's powers as a former Elemental Master of Fire.
In "Riddle of the Sphinx", Wu's experiments are interrupted when Cole arrives with news from the Hydro Bounty crew: the Storm Amulet needed to awaken Wojira is in Ninjago City at the Explorer's Club. Joined by Misako, Wu and the others head there, but are forced to face the Trial by Sphinx" in order to be granted access. They succeed but arrive at the amulet's location only just ahead of thr prince now king Kalmaar, who has come to claim the amulet so he can awaken Wojira. Wu engages the villain in battle, only to learn that the Hydro Bounty crew has been stranded on the Island of the Keepers.
In "Papergirl", the battle between Wu's allies and Kalmaar's forces continues, and the Storm Amulet ends up in the possession of Antonia and Lil' Nelson. The pair lead Kalmaar on a chase through the city only to lose the amulet but earn Wu's gratitude for both this and saving Kai from drowning. In "Master of the Sea", Wu's team engage Kalmaar and his Maaray Guards at the docks, only to be forced to surrender when Kalmaar takes Misako hostage. Fortunately, the five of them are saved from execution by the sudden return of the Hydro Bounty crew and their new ally Benthomaar, though Kalmaar escapes with the amulet.
In "The Calm Before the Storm", Wu travels to Ninjago Police headquarters to interrogate Glutinous, Kalmaar's former chief scientist. After learning that Wojira has been awakened, he contacts Pixal and urges her to complete the vehicles she had been preparing against the possibility of Kalmaar's attack. In "Assault on Ninjago City", Wu and Pixal use the Destiny's Bounty to evacuate civilians, only for the ship to be forced out of the sky by an attacking Wojira. In "Nyad", they set the Bounty on autopilot to distract Kalmaar while the battle-weary group takes refuge at NGTV News. Wu and the others are left uncertain what to do, until Nya merges with the sea in order to gain the power to confront Kalmaar and Wojira.
In "The Turn of the Tide", Wu and the others race to back Nya up in the final battle, only to see her seemingly perish at Kalmaar's hand. Jay seizes Wu's staff and leaps into battle against Kalmaar, while Wu and the others do battle with Kalmaar's guards. After Kalmaar is killed by Wojira, Nya reappears and defeats the beast sea serpent and sea monster, but has begun to lose herself in her new state. Despite Wu's pleas and those of the others, she departs for the depths of the sea, pulling out the floodwaters behind her. Later, Wu leads a ceremony honoring her sacrifice at the monastery, which is attended by friends and allies from across Ninjago Island.

- He is voiced by Paul Dobson, who also played the voice for Whenua in the second and third BIONICLE movies. He later voiced Rattla and Falcon in the first season of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, and later on, Acidicus, Jacob Pevsner, Ghoultar, Fenwick, and Flintlocke.
- Sensei Wu's black robes have symbols that protect him from evil. They aided him in defeating Lord Garmadon prior to his banishment to the Underworld.
- He gains a new kimono in the 2012 wave. However, Wu keeps his old Kimono in the series and never gains a new one.
- Under his rice hat is a small black cap, and a photo of him, Misako and Garmadon when they were younger.
- He appears to still have strong feelings for Misako throughout the series.

Sensei Wu is a wise, old Spinjitzu Master. How old is he? Only his brother, the evil Lord Garmadon knows, and I'm not gonna ask him.
Their father created Ninjago, and to help protect it, Wu is training four young ninjas in Spinjitzu. He is very strong… sometimes he strikes with his staff, other times, he uses his wisdom.
