Shazam! is a Super Heroes minifigure who first appeared as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive figure in 2012 before becoming available in a wide-release set in 2019. Shazam has also appeared in LEGO DC Comics video games.
Description[edit | edit source]
Shazam has the same black, slicked back hair piece as Bruce Wayne, and similar face printing, the differences being the expression and wrinkles around his eyes similar to Superman and cheekbones closer in design to those being used on 2013 minifigures like Aquaman, but thinner. He also has a double-sided face. One side has a neutral expression, while the other is angry with a wide-opened mouth. His torso has muscular printing with his yellow, lightning-bolt logo, a yellow belt, and a chain on his chest that supposedly attaches to his white cape. His hips and legs are red and his hands are flesh coloured.
In the video games[edit | edit source]
His appearance in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is the same as the Classic SDCC desgin. Shazam can fly, has super strength, is invincible, is immune to electricity, and is able to shoot lightning bolts from his chest to destroy golden objects. He is unlocked in the Heroes DLC pack.
In LEGO Batman 3, Shazam is updated with his appearance from The New 52. He can also transform into and from Billy Batson. The New 52 styled design is refined further in LEGO DC Super-Villains with a new hairpiece (matching the New 52 version of the figure), hip printing, and boots. Billy Batson, meanwhile, is redesigned to more closely resemble simple Golden Age versions of the character. The Shazam! DLC bundle, based on the live action film, unlocks additional versions of Shazam and Billy to resemble their depictions on-screen.
Background[edit | edit source]
As a young boy Billy Batson finds himself aboard a magical subway car which brought him to a wizard named Shazam. The wizard tells Billy that he has been selected to become his champion, transforming into an adult superhero with the powers of six legendary gods and heroes whenever he says the word "Shazam." Billy is able to share his powers with his foster siblings Freddie Freeman, Darla Dudley, Mary Bromfield, Eugene Choi, and Pedro Peña.
In LEGO DC Super-Villains[edit | edit source]
Shazam arrives at the Gotham City Museum of Natural History after Black Adam is freed by The Joker, Harley Quinn, Sinestro, and Clayface. Superwoman also appears to apprehend the criminals, along with Mazahs. Shazam is excited about the prospect of teaming up with Earth-3 heroes, especially his alternate earth counterpart, but Superwoman, disconcerted by Mazahs's presence, leaves the two to face Black Adam and Sinestro alone. Without Superwoman, Shazam and Mazahs are defeated by the villains and escape.
Shazam plays no role in the story but is available on the console version through downloadable content.
In the portable version Shazam! is an unlockable character. His minikit can be found in the level Assault the VTOL. He costs 100,000 studs.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- Shazam is voiced by Brandon Routh in LEGO DC Super Villains, who also reprises his role as Ray Palmer from the Arrowverse shows. Zachary Levi reprises his role as Shazam from the live action movie as the Shazam skin unlocked with the Shazam! DLC bundle.
