An Imperial Snowtrooper, also referred to as just a Snowtrooper, is a minifigure first released in 2003, based on the cold-weather specialised stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire from the Star Wars universe.
Description[edit | edit source]
The first Snowtrooper minifigure was released in the 2003 set, 4483 AT-AT. This minifigure has plain white legs with a grey leg joint, and a white torso piece. The torso has printing on the front area, depicting a white belt which is outlined in black and grey, the Snowtrooper's armoured chest plate with grey detailing along with red and black buttons, and black outlining of the plate at the top of the piece. This Snowtrooper's head piece is plain black, but wears a white helmet and backpack piece specially designed for this minifigure over the head. Two eye holes are present on this helmet piece so that part of the headpiece shows through, giving the impression of a black visor. This original Snowtrooper variant came with one other accessory- a blaster which was made up of a black megaphone piece with a transparent reddish-orange stud attached to the end of it.
The next variant, released in 2004, was largely the same as the original variant except that the grey parts of the Snowtrooper were changed to a new grey, reflecting a change in LEGO's colour palette across all sets. This variant appeared in several sets released between 2004 and 2011, and typically came armed with a black blaster or blaster rifle. The most recent variant in 2020 no longer comes with a cloth kama or backpack.
Video game variants[edit | edit source]
In LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Snowtrooper appears under the name "Snowtrooper (Classic)". Its abilities consist of the following:
- Can shoot LEGO targets
- Can bypass Cold areas
Background[edit | edit source]
Snowtroopers were Imperial stormtroopers trained to operate in freezing environments, and wore specialised armour suited to their cold surroundings. When the Galactic Empire discovered the location of the Rebel Alliance's secret base on Hoth, snowtroopers under the command of Darth Vader were deployed to the planet and fought in the battle against Rebel forces.
