From Brickipedia, the LEGO Wiki

Hi everyone,

I was curious if the users of this community, and the admins, would be interested in a Brickipedia "podcast". If not a podcast, what it could be would be a sort of "question and answer" session with Brickipedia admins using Google Hangouts, where it could be streamed live to YouTube and the users could ask questions.

Question for the admins, which ones of you all are able to participate in this kind of thing? Doing it on Google+ would ideally mean you'd be using video (at least audio of course), so you'd have to be okay with having your video or at least audio being publicly viewable by those who watch the livestream.

What this would do would allow for our visitors to get to know the admins a bit better, which makes it a more friendly atmosphere and also is a way for users to engage with each other in a non-traditional way but still a fun way.

So who's interested in this idea?

I like that this idea is getting revisited (again). When are we going to finally stop being lazy and do it? :P just make sure you tell me when we do it, I want to be a part of it too! :)

Maybe we should all add each other on Skype and start doing calls periodically. That'll get us used to talking to each other and practice talking about things we might talk about on a podcast.

Meiko that sounds like a great idea, I'd be more than happy to do such a thing if it gets us closer to doing an official podcast. (The reply button is bugged for me: when I click it, it simply takes me to the bottom of the page...)

Now that I have a not so terrible mic, I have a renewed interest in this! I'd be willing to participate in a podcast or some kind of "question and answer" session (No idea how it'd work but it could be fun...), maybe such a thing could start us off and then we could get others (who would want to) to do the same? And then eventually get into doing a podcast? (Sorry for my recent lack of activity, college takes a lot of my time...)

If I can find the time to do it I'd be willing to participate but only using a microphone; I have no webcam. Set a date and time (which I'll convert to GMT +0) I'll say if I can attend or not.

You should use your regular voice everyone loves a British accent!

Completely understandable. Though if it is time you're short on I'm sure some other users (myself for one) would be happy to do the majority of the work and you would only have to show up for the recording.

Just putting it out there; I'd like to revisit this idea before 2015. I've been looking for ways to boost Brickipedia's marketing and this seems like the best way to do it. As far as livestream vs prerecorded goes however, I'd prefer the former as it offers viewers the opportunity to interact during the broadcast by answering questions or giving their thoughts. You can see this kind of engagement on BrickNerd's live builds and BZPower's live chats. It would likely be the best thing for us to do that we aren't already doing to expand our reach to more LEGO fans.

Before I make a vote I want a good idea of how many people would truly participate. I'm sure plenty of people would support it in a vote but the last thing I want and need is that when it comes time to make a podcast for everyone to say "I can't participate because ________".

Similar to CGCJ, I'd probably be willing to do it but I would prefer it to be pre-recorded. I don't mind answering questions, but audio only (I have no webcam anyway). I would do my best to find available time to answer any questions the community has. :)

Clone - maybe you are getting confused by the terms? a Live stream would still be able to be released after recording (like a podcast), but it also has the benefit that people can interact and ask questions.

Well, I'm not the most confident of people (I would probably be awkward/panic on it being live-streamed, if I'm honest but I'd still love to give it a go though), especially with verbal communication but I do understand the benefits of it being live-streamed, as it would mean the possibility of viewer interaction and a greater feel of us being a closer community of users.

As long as no one asks me why I don't have an irish accent. Podcast means they can't see our faces right. I webcammed(even tweaked :P) months ago, so if you wanted to see me live use time travel.

People will only see your faces if you want them to. You can use both audio and video (and even when video is turned on you can turn it away from your face), use only audio (they'll hear you speak but not see you), use only video (and use sign language), or use neither audio and video (and simply listen in and creep people out. :P)
