NovaHawk welcomes[edit source]

  • Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for all the work you've been doing with the 2018 Star Wars pages :) Sorry you didn't have anyone helping you out with the updates- a lot of the regular editors seem to be away right now (myself included). Anyway, thanks again! NovaHawk 12:10, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
    • answered (HolyCharly)
      • Hi Holycharly, sorry again for the delayed reply, I should be back to normal in a few days. Sounds a lot like how I got started on here- I used to pretty much only edit the pages for the upcoming Star Wars and Harry Potter sets, it gave me an excuse to spend time looking at the images and helped me plan out what to buy :)
The only policy I can think of that applies just to Star Wars is that if something exists in both Legends and the new Canon then the article's background should only reference information relating to the new Canon, but that doesn't really ever come up much. Other than that, our normal Manual of Style should be fine for most pages.
We don't have any sort of blacklists against sites- if you get your info from a certain place, feel free to just put it down in the relevant Sources or References heading without worrying about anything like that. Usually with Star Wars articles we have a link using {{Storyref}} to Wookieepedia under an "External links" heading so people can easily find more in-depth information about the subject. On set pages, we should also normally have corresponding links to Brickset and a couple of other sites in this section too. The only thing in that area we don't allow is uploading any watermarked confidential/preliminary images since LEGO asks for them to not be uploaded. Writing down any info obtained from those images (like what minifigures are in the set) is fine though (there's only been one case where we couldn't post information).
Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions or if I didn't answer any of those correctly. And good luck with getting the new Falcon! I know a lot of people have been having problems getting it unfortunately- Brikkyy13 on here managed to get one a couple of months ago but I think that was back when they first came out and there were still a few available. Hopefully they get some more in stock soon NovaHawk 02:06, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

The Last Jedi spoilers[edit source]

  • Hey, just in case you're planning on adding any more info from the new movie, content on The Last Jedi should be wrapped in a spoiler template for the next couple of months, eg:
{{Spoiler2|topic=[[Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi|''Star Wars'': Episode VIII ''The Last Jedi'']]|
info goes here
}}

produces:

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi follow.

info goes here

Spoilers end here.

Also, any chance you could possibly add the spoiler template to any info you've already put in when you get the time? Usually I'd do it myself... but I'm trying to avoid anything Star Wars related until I see the movie in a couple of days :D NovaHawk

done. & Happy watching Last Jedi in your sector of the Galaxy, NovaHawk !

Holycharly (talk) 17:46, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks very much for taking care of all that :) I think I'm beginning to look forward more to being able to not worry about reading spoilers than to going to see the actual film at this point :D How'd you find the movie? From the spoiler-free reviews I've read about half seemed to love it and the other half said it ruined Star Wars, so it seems a bit controversial NovaHawk 11:32, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
My first impression was negative from the purist geek of OT I've become at the age of 45. Read same reactions best of which saying this script was polarizing as shit. When I started the page the day before US release, it had 4500 comments. I slept after reading 500. Seven hours after a bright sleepy time, comments were 13500 on day 15 midday for America. By the end of the day it was like 23500 comments ... and I went to see the movie a second time, trying to focus on details I didn't notice the first time. This second moment made me accept the movie and the cunning director. 2 years ago I decided not to take account of TFA (including LEGO sets) now I'm dragged up to accept both movies and expect what they will do for the end chapter in 2019. In this one Key moments mix the Empire and Return of the Jedi, so their hands are completely free for the Grand Finale. Read also an analyzing report grossly saying this movie had a message meant to the baby boomers generation : "accept your failures and begin to transmit your knowledge for the younger ones, who'll deal with the fate of the World". So much in so little moviegoing time xD.
See you,

P.S.1 : do you know about "LUG" ? Lego User Groups (maybe) ? Are there some around your place ? Worth it ?
P.S.2 : Got my Big Box actually !! A new adventure starts xD xD
P.S.3 : the aforementioned page was similar to https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/7khhsr/the_last_jedi_opening_weekend_day_4_megathread/ but for day One. Can't retrieve it but should be 30k comments by now...
I've been pretty much completely offline since I last typed that because I was getting bombarded with spoilers anywhere I went and got sick of covering my screen with my hand haha. Like you I tried to ignore TFA, even though I liked the characters in the film I wasn't at all into what they did with the plot. But now after seeing VIII I've got to get used to VII I guess since I really enjoyed everything about VIII (and fully expected to hate it, so it was a nice surprise). Wow, I don't think I've ever even seen a thread with that many comments on Reddit before, even when I check /r/all comments are only ever rarely over 10000 mark.
I don't know anything much about LUGs really except they exist (yeah it stands for Lego User Group), mainly because there aren't any in my area. I think one or two people on here are (or at least were) in a LUG, I can ask around if you like. Great to hear you got your Falcon! :D I was just catching up on some news for the last week or two and saw they were back in stock, good to know you got one before they ran out again. I'm guessing you've probably built it by now, would be interested to hear what you thought of the build and how it looks :) NovaHawk 12:51, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
Hey Holycharly, I've sent Meiko a message about the Shopping Days stickers, he hasn't been around too much lately but hopefully he'll be in touch soon. As far as I know we still have RLUG status and Meiko's still an Ambassador so I think we should have access to the stickers but I can't say for sure (Meiko and I think Berrybrick are the ones who handle these kinds of things).
Yeah, that's sort of our unofficial central blog for any off-topic conversation on the site, I daresay we'll be getting a lot more Star Wars talk when everyone's back from the holidays- we usually have a lull at this time of year, and it picks up a bit when next year's sets come up on the official shop site (which they just have a day or two ago, so more people should be coming back soon). But yeah it's amazing how many people I've talked to who have had such a different experience after watching VIII a second time much like yours and Brikkyy's- I don't think I've ever heard of another movie where it's so common for people's perceptions to change so much after watching a movie a second time. I'm looking forward to it coming out on DVD so I can see how I react to it a second time- hopefully I don't go the opposite way and end up hating it :D NovaHawk 12:29, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
> I don't think I've ever heard of another movie where it's so common for people's perceptions to change so much after watching a movie a second time
>>Ever heard of a movie franchise for which the original actors reprise their roles after a 30 year interruption ? In between, all the kids we were discovering these scenes in the eighties (+ going back to the movie theater up to learn each character line by heart) have turned to grown-ups that watched each OT episode, let's say, thirty times each (if not analyzing the movie sequences frame by frame for the hardcore ones). Disney producers know that for a fact, which defines the audience of their franchise. Guess what, the director himself comes from that generation (he's one year younger than me). His decisions in the movie are polarizing for that king of viewer, because many scenes look oddly similar to 'legit' ones coming from Esb or RotJ. But the cunning director changes the final twist on thoses scenes each time (e.g. Snoke dies / Emperor dies ... but then (twist) former opposed heroes line up to fight the praetorian guards together), to the disappointment of that spectator during his first viewing. Hence the way each forty-something viewer has to fight his own conservative reactions that may rise at his first sight of the movie. I guess they even play with us on purpose : on Crait, a cameo appearance of Gareth Edwards (Rogue One director) as Resistance Ground forces grunt puts his finger on the soil, tastes it and says "It's salt !", a message just intended to the audience placed in front of an obvious reenaction of <<Assault on icy planet Hoth>>. This is a very clever choice of script, and a daring one. Now Lucafilm's hands are free for the final chapter, since main plots included in V and VI were replayed.
Even for the character of Kylo Ren, who I considered as a replacement of Darth Vader : 2 years ago I was lamed by the scene in TFA where we can watch him destroy the room out of anger, thought it was a pity description of a failed Sith Lord that just can't control his emotions ; after TLJ I now see him a much more subtle way, digging his path on his own through both the First Order leadership and his Skywalker family legacy. I have to rewatch TFA to determine how the aforementioned lame scene might be seen as a consequence of the torments Snoke was planning on his pupil's mind, now his nastiness was revealed.
fourth example of 'legit' reference use : at the end of TLJ, Rey meets Poe Dameron for the first time. "My name is Poe Dameron" - "Hey I'm Rey". - "I know." - Needless to say this emphasizes the two are expected to start a relationship, as a hint intended to the audience that enjoyed the punchline of Han Solo to Leia before being frozen into carbonite.
Anything can happen now for IX, I have much greater expectations than 2 years ago. The sole topics that annoyed me were 1/ the use of sacrificial heroism that flooded Rogue One (Paige's death at the entry scene of the movie) and 2/ the 'poney girl'-styled critter escape with the jockeys on planet Casino (looks too much like an idea featured in yet another Disney cartoon). Your thoughts on those aspects ? Yours, Holycharly (talk) 16:30, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
Hey, sorry for taking so long to reply- I've had some people here for the holidays and getting online's been a bit tricky the last few days (plus I've been having some trouble with my internet which doesn't help). Yeah I definitely see Kylo Ren as having much more depth after this movie, and I can actually understand why he's doing most of what he does. Like you I saw him as just a Vader replacement in Episode VII, or maybe moreso what Vader could have been if he didn't end up in the suit (I can easily see Anakin throwing a tantrum like that, maybe not so much a properly suited up Vader). I've been meaning to rewatch VII again to see if I enjoy it more than before after getting to know some of the characters a bit more, hopefully I'll get around to it next week sometime. Haha, weirdly I never picked up on "I know" linking to Episode V, I really should have. I did think at the time the scene was filmed in a way that indicated Rey and Poe might end up together though. Never thought of Paige having a Rogue One-esque death, now you mention it it was very similar, and I even remember thinking it was starting to drag out a bit. What movie were you thinking of for the Canto Bight escape? It does remind me of something now, I can't place the movie though so that's probably why it didn't bother me.
Even though I'm still having a hard time letting go of the EU and I find many of the events in the new canon very strange and hard to believe (Mon Mothma demilitarizing the New Republic pretty much right after the Imperial Fleet vanished after the Battle of Jakku 1 year after Episode VI instead of keeping those forces around to hunt for the remains of the Empire, there only being a couple of hundred people in the whole Galaxy being worried about the First Order, not to mention the entirety of the New Republic's forces which were meant to be kept around to keep the whole galaxy safe were stationed in a single system) I think it'll be really interesting to see where IX goes now, now that JJ can't just remake VI it should be good to see a completely original movie and I'm looking forward to IX much more than I was with VIII (I don't know if that's a good thing though since there's a bigger chance I'll just end up disappointed).
Anyway, hope you had a great New Year! Picked up my first set of the year yesterday, it's nice to get some Executioner minifigures even if they weren't particularly important in the movie :) NovaHawk 12:34, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
(Also, I forgot to mention Meiko's left a reply on his talk page about LUGs and Shopping Days, you've probably had a notification for it already, just thought I'd let you know in case you had pings disabled in your preferences NovaHawk 12:43, 4 January 2018 (UTC))

2018 Wave 1[edit source]

Just entered Top Fifty[edit source]

NovaHawk's answer >>
  • Wow, you got the whole wave? I haven't done that in a long time, but can still remember the feeling, it definitely makes for a great day of building :) Will be looking forward to reading your reviews, there look like there are a lot of good sets in this wave but I don't really tend to read reviews unless they're on here (I don't know why, I just don't). Also saw on your userpage you want a remade TIE Bomber- that's right at the top of my list of things I want too (along with a TIE Interceptor). 4479's a great set, but it'd be interesting to see what they could do with a TIE Bomber these days (and get rid of those blue highlights).
Let me know if you have any problems with creating reviews- it's not exactly intuitive on here and may take some getting used to, I've done what I can to make it as user-friendly as possible but it could still do with some work.
I think the marketing's generally pretty good (although I'm not a fan of the whole "Force Friday" thing at all because it means annoying embargos for sites like ours. But that's Disney's fault, not LEGO's), and like you said the movies and toys definitely feed off each other- I know I wouldn't be quite as into Star Wars if I didn't have the LEGO to go with it (and vice-versa). Yeah, after the initial excitement of seeing new set images I'm not especially looking forward to them, the two Landspeeder sets don't really appeal to me and the TIE Fighter's just another remake. However, they are only prelims and there have been some pretty big improvements between prelims and final images in the past so I'm still looking foward to seeing how they turn out.
And congratulations on making it in to the top 50! Actually I thought with all you've been doing you'd have been in there a while ago, I daresay you'll be climbing the leaderboard pretty quickly though :) NovaHawk 06:09, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
