Captain Soto is a minifigure released in 2016, four years after he first appeared in Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
Background[edit | edit source]
Captain Soto was the original captain of the Destiny's Bounty. While searching for the Dark Island, a storm blew the vessel away into the cliffs of Ninjago. Years later, Lord Garmadon found his logbook and, after he wished that the Pirates were there to help him, the Mega Weapon brought them back. The pirates were resurrected and threw both Garmadon and the Serpentine into the brig. Captain Soto discovered the changes that the ninja had made to the ship, and he went to Ninjago City on a raid, stealing everything. Afterwards, they tied Dareth up after he jumped onto the ship. Then they battled the ninja but lost and were sent to jail, which then allowed Garmadon and the Serpentine to reclaim the Destiny's Bounty. In the 17th episode, "Ninjaball Run", they somehow broke out of jail and entered the Ninjaball Run Road Race. However, they were the first to be disqualified after being rammed into the entrance of the chasm by Darkley's Boarding School's students in their bus.
Captain Soto and his crew were taken to Kryptarium Prison. He managed to escape when the ninja came to find Pythor before the faux-Anacondrai did. After a riot he was later put back in his cell. He later helped the ninja in their struggle to stop Chen and his army at the Corridor of Elders.
When the ninja were framed for some crimes by Nadakhan, they found Soto when they too were imprisoned. Soto informed them that it was he who fought Nadakhan and put him in the Teapot of Tyrhan in the first place. In exchange for breaking him out of Kryptarium, Soto shared with the ninja how to defeat Nadakhan and put him back into the teapot. Jay later recruits him to be a part of the 'Replacement Ninja' team to stop Nadakhan from marrying Nya and gaining unlimited wishes.
