Set delayed[edit source]

21038 Las Vegas set was delayed, due to the shooting that occurred from Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort in October 2017. The same hotel was supposed to be featured in the skyline exposed in this set.

It is not yet announced if the set is just postponed or fully canceled.

I don't know if it should outright say "delayed due to shootings" on the page, since a) after all, it is a toy and b) I can't recall a LEGO set ever being delayed for that reason, and I don't think it'll ever happen again. Right now I've said "delayed due to events..." which I think could be worded a bit better but I can't think of anything else at the moment. BrikkyyTalk 23:48, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
I've moved it to the notes section since it isn't confirmed (but there's realistically no way it was delayed for any other reason. Brickset and The Brick Fan are stating that it was delayed for this reason, I've worded the note so it makes it clear that we're not 100% sure). We definitely shouldn't be censoring information though- if you're worrying about kids, I think you'll find there are more kids on the main page of Wikipedia than on this particular article. Take a look at their front page news:
  • Bombing kills 103 people
  • Hospital fire kills 37 people
  • Doctor convicted for abusing over 150 gymnasts
If we keep it vague and say "due to events", a large portion of people reading the page 10 years later will have no idea what "events" are being alluded to here :P Totally happy to remove the link to the Wikipedia page if you think it's not suitable though NovaHawk 02:41, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
I personally have no issue with it as I prefer to not to censor things, but as it could be a sensitive topic for some people I thought maybe we may have to approach it a bit differently. Also, some toy fair news: apparently the set is now getting redesigned and pushed back to September, presumably to remove Mandalay Bay Hotel. BrikkyyTalk 10:23, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Huh, that's good news (at least to me)- nothing against Mandalay Bay, but it's not exactly the most exciting building looking in Vegas on the outside. Hoping for New York-New York (with a rollercoaster on top) or the Bellagio. Anyway, I don't speak German so have to rely on Google Translate, it seems to confirm the reasons behind the delay, that Mandalay Bay will be switched out, and that it will be out in Autumn (only says "probably" September despite the headline) so I've adjusted the note accordingly. Feel free to change anything around if you think it's wrong NovaHawk 11:51, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
